you'll probably find it'll settle down, anyway you did the right thing using a child theme you site won't get messed up agin.
Also use duplicator plugin ( Free from Wordpress.org ) and make regular backups quickly

Yeah all the content is the same. Didn't loose any rankings either.

The site looks the same as before with the same ad locations, same traffic but 10 times less revenue!

Just over a month. Made the ad location change on the 10th of December, worked instantly. Site crashed on the 20th of Jan. Site back to normal on the 7th of Feb but took a while for the coder to get it exactly to my liking.

I am now starting to wonder if he used his adsense code to test the ad locations and has forgotten to take them off? lol

I don't think that is a likely scenario, but it's definitely worth asking although perhaps a bit of delicate question unless you approach it well from the whole mistake end of things. I'd bet you had established a pretty regular clientele of AdSense ads over your initial testing period, and that with all your down-time these well identified ads have gotten lost in the overall mix. They'll settle out to the top again as your click volume picks up, but it could take a little while. I would think you would start to see increasing daily click values each day with perhaps slow growth as you get closer to those ten dollar days again.

Good luck. Some traffic blasts from reputable brokers might be able to help re-establish higher CTRs in the short-term, but it's not something many SEOs would consider.

Just do a right click > view page source and check if it's your code it will be faster.

Inspect the page loading for your users, see where it lacks and improve that first. It will be a boost for you and your visitors. As the other mentioned look for your content in the other pages and check how many 404 you have ( you can check them in webmaster tools or from your server logs ).

Just go into your site and check the adsense ad publisher ID. You can find out quick if they are your ads.

Update: Ok so I have double checked all the adsense code and they are all correct. So its not that.

I did notice one thing though. The high CTR ad was reduced in size for some reason?! I should be 728 x 90, but the designer must have reduced it too 700x90 for some reason. I have now copy and paste the code from adsense. Could that have affected the clicks? i.e. google not counting them?

I highly doubt that. It could be that during that time frame that you were making all of that money, there was a particular advertiser with a well converting ad that was really advertising like crazy. I recall one particular advertisement last year that was bringing home the bacon for me on one of my sites. I wish they would start up their campaign again. This might not be your issue, but it is a possibility.

How do you know that for sure? just a case of constantly seeing their ad on your site?

My site is very much an entertainment niche. Think wallpapers, funny etc So the ads are all random, mainly re-marketing ads from what I see.

Yes pretty much. It was on my site every time I looked at it, even after clearing cookies etc. It was such a good ad I was tempted to click it myself. However I cannot say with 100% certainty that this was the reason why I was getting such a high click through rate, but it makes sense. Once that ad disappeared, so did my high CTR.

Have you checked the site on different browsers and is the site mobile friendly? Maybe it is not showing up properly

maybe less advertiser? or those high paying ad stop it or does not want repeated users seeing the ad,
if you have organic traffic you dont need to think about that issue but if you rely mainly only at direct users.. most of company including google, sometimes they dont show ad thats already convert to user or they pay less
