How long does the .htaccess file take to work?

I have used a .htaccess file on my host where my PBN's sit to block link checker bots.

I did this a few weeks ago and my PBN links are still showing up when searching for backlinks to my money site - even on the free link checkers (FFS!)

Does anyone know how long it takes?

I used the below for my .htaccess

.htaccess works almost real-time (there may be some caching etc but in fact it does take seconds or minutes). Your problem is that your website isn't yet re-indexed and no one can tell you exect time when it will be.

.htaccess works instantly, you have to wait for the crawler from the link checker to come back to your site and see its being redirected. Then the links will be removed.

jakal just use this .htaccess file before you start creating PBN..
You use it few weeks/months after your site was indexed so it's a little too late

Now you must wait another few months for deindexation

.htaccess is just another file that you upload on your server, so the changes happen instantly. You need to have the file in place before you publish your sites/PBN-s online.

It is not the .htaccess. If the link crawlers have already indexed the links then they will wait for a few crawls before dropping the links from their index. Mostly they will drop it within a month or so, that is what i have seen.

Go to wannabrowser.com and put different user agent names, to see if they are blocked. There are also some browser addons for user agent switching and you can make some tests.
