how is 9gag bypassing Adblock?

it's all in the title. i have adblock installed but on 9gag.com i can see the ads. how are they doing it?

I just went to the website and checked and all the Ads are blocked for me. Your adblock must be broken or you're misinterpreting what an ad is that would be blocked. Can you show me an example?

Are you allowing 'non obtrusive' ads in adblockers settings? The one that allows adblocker to display ads from companies that pay them to not block their ads.

BTW: Does everyone see Google ADs when they use their search engine? Every other place they are blocked, but I see their ads on Google search if that makes sense.

if you opt out, you shouldn't see ads anywhere or if you still see a few, you can add your own rules to hide those too

i was familiar that there are alternatives to AdBlock Plus, i made a little research when there was this news a few months back that AdBlock Plus will allow some ads go through (by Google, Amazon etc), little did we know at that time, that it will be an opt-in choice of the addon users, so i was familiar that there's uBlock Origin, but i was never thinking about switching from AdBlock Plus to anything else, at least until it keeps blocking the ads

but i thought what the heck, i took your advice, i give this uBlock Origin a try and the browsing really is faster with it thanks to the fact that it's easier on both CPU and RAM
my browser of choice is mainly Firefox, i use Chrome only occasionally, but i just switched both to uBlock Origin from AdBlock Plus, because the webpages load noticeably faster

if you have ever used an adblocker, you know the difference between the internet with ads and without ads, now imagine a similar difference in speed of browsing when using AdBlock Plus and when using uBlock Origin, in the favor of uBlock Origin

plus uBlock Origin seems to be blocking everything, sometimes a few ads slip through using AdBlock Plus (even when the 'allow non-intrusive ads' function is disabled), i know because i made my own rules to block those, now i disabled AdBlock Plus and enabled uBlock Origin and even those ads are hidden without me adding any new blocking rules to uBlock Origin, i'm using the default 3rd-party filters with both (maybe uBlock Origin has more/different 3rd-party filters enabled by default)
