My First Blog: CRITIQUE ME

Pretty much anything I would have said was mentioned by other members above. Other than that, here are a few other suggestions for you.
  • Add a navigation bar
  • Focus on a specific type of news
  • Get rid of the word "blog" on your homepage or replace it with "articles".
  • Some users dislike lazy-loading on images. If you suspect your target audience won't respond well to that feature, then remove it.

which images are lazy loading? all mine load just fine

The post snippets and images on your homepage load as I scroll down rather than load as soon as I visit your website. You don't have to remove that feature unless your site visitors have an issue with it.

The domain name sounds great to me and it's very easy to recall, I think you've done a great job on that. The problem is that the site looks boring, better organize the homepage first, work on it as much as possible and sneak out on your competitors, take time to look at the design of their website, get ideas and implement or copy what you think is best to include in your website.

okay guys! i have used all the advice people throughout this post has given me. Tell me how I have done

It looks a lot better than when I first saw it.

You still need to capitalise the "Life" category/section as it is still lower-case.

Oh, wow! It does look much better!

Here's another suggestion: this is just an opinion, but the mouse-over effect for the navigation bar feels too subtle. Maybe changing the mouse-over text colour to orange would be better.

well dude, its stealing 'concentration' as finding headlines should be seamless
you have to pay attention to find stuff, I don't like that, you'll lose people
but don't worry about negative criticism here, people need to know; you're giving it a go mate, good on you!

1) There is no point why a visitor would want to return to that site. What is this website, you said a blog, is it, or it is a news website? What is the main focus group? I see so many topics used there that I cannot specify the target group, this will confuse Google, unless you are building a news website.

2) As mentioned by others, where are the privacy policy, terms of use, disclosure etc pages? Why do you think you can skip them? If you are building a news website they are a must. No matter what people say, I am sure Google will recognize more authority sites by having these in place too.

3) Remove login, unless you want to build some type of a membership website as it looks lame.

4) Articles are very short, even a little pointless. How are these articles better than what is already ranking? If they are not better, why would Google consider ranking them in the first place, above other results? Just ask yourself, if this was not your website, would you visit it at all, would you spend your time reading these articles at all?

If you want to get organic traffic, you won't do much with such low quality website, not in 2016, maybe in 2009, but not now. Unless you have some other source of traffic, I suggest you to rework it from the ground - put all the necessary legal pages first, avoid focusing on design on the expense of the quality of the content and focus on the most important thing - your content. Choose a focus group and build all your content based on this focus group. Make you articles to be unique, long, well formatted, something which people would really really really want to read.

i would say it looks not too bad but at the start it may take some tweaking and testing before you can optimize
