Blame it on your government who over the long years have not stopped your countrymen (some of them) from getting your good country a real bad name on the internet. On the internet means the bad name spreads like poison does inside a human body. Why didn't it proactively hunt down those involved in such major scams? I'd as much blame my own government/s for not doing as much for keeping our own (country's) name in good standing (and at least as far as scams are concerned -- and that involves scams done by top people in real life and in real offline).
So it may take a lot of time until you see better days for your countrymen. See how a few people can ruin the reputation of a great land? Just keep your fingers crossed until then... It's a sad reality imho.
Sadly it hurts everyone a lot, doesn't it?

A few years back, my son came to me frightened and with his laptop on. It was very early morning, at about 5:30am, and he had gotten a email from nigeria, in which his eldest uncle had called upon him to send him money equivalent to about $100 urgently. That email stated that he was in Nigeria and was in deep trouble with its police and they were asking for $100 to clear his name from something he wasn't involved in. The uncle seemed in great distress. And naturally my son woke everyone up and begged me to do something urgently. The email had given a PP address for the money to be sent. Somehow I asked him to be relaxed, but he and my wife were agitated and in fear... I tried to call this uncle (my BiL), who was staying in another city in India, and after trying his landline phone for about 15 anxious minutes (blame the notorious Mumbai telephones for the network confusions) he got on it, and asked what was the matter! lol.
My wife who was full of fear, talked anxiously with him over the phone, and she even then thought that he was still in Nigeria and in deep trouble... she kept asking if he was safe... so such is the fear which your people are capable to spread, and with psychological effects attached -- early morning email -- known relations and names of those relatives (possible taken from FB), and a reallife situation being created for the urgency of sending money to them without thinking much.... see, hos some of your people are not just entering the drawing rooms in far off lands, they are also entering the subconscious in the form of intense fear! Pg Fckers...
The poor uncle was really shocked that such a bizzare case could ever happen to him -- he vowed/promised to my wife that he will never go to Nigeria in life! hehehehe
P.P.S.:
That BiL is a SBI employee and has worked as a branch manager for many years... if at all he was in trouble and needed money, just about $100!!, then he could have easily got that from the Indian branch in that country, or even from his Indian branch back home, and within minutes! Of course he would have carried on him that much money surely, while visiting in a foreign land... but logic flies out of the window first thing, and in that early hour, and when you are woken out of deep sleep, and the son is still awake doing whatever on the net lol, and when you suddenly see one of your dear ones in deep sh!t that too in a foreign land, you panic like hell! The Nigerian scammers have crossed all limits of human tolerances... if ever I find my hands around his neck! lol!
