Niche - neesh or nitch?

The word has French origins so if you stay true to that then it's "neesh". But both pronunciations are valid nowadays.

I still use "neesh" personally, nitch sounds crap to me.

I usually say "Niche" then sometimes when talking to someone else I may start really doubting if am saying it right but then again; I may stumble on trying to get the right pronounctiation but never really feel comfortable. Here again, "nitch" sounds right, it's crazy cause most of the people got their own ways of pronouncing it. So I think whoever gets the point, just grasps it and moves on. It shouldn't matter much either wayy

Ah, I see what's going on here. I think you misconstrued my intentions in my posts.

You see, when I said, "you should tell that to the authors of the Cambridge Dictionary", that wasn't meant to be in an antagonising tone to prove a point, which is how I'm assuming you interpreted the tone of my previous post. I literally meant that you should send them an email and assert your position as they're the ones who stated that on their website, not me. Your assumptions make it look like you're setting up a straw man as I never said the US has its own language nor did I imply in any of my posts that pronouncing something incorrectly long enough would make it correct. I merely took a neutral stance on the "neesh" and "nitch" debate and stated what was on the Cambridge website as I assumed the users here would find it interesting. This is why I never stated how I pronounce the word niche.

However, I do agree with what you're saying and hopefully this clears up what I meant for you.
