Time for a review.

I've been with SharkServers since November 2014 and started of on their Ultimate Shared hosting plan. In all honesty it was all great. The customer service was top notch and I very much doubt it is easily, if at all, beatable.

After a bit we moved to Linux VPS 2. They did the full migration for me and got it all setup and handed over root access. It took a day or two but that was expected and fine. The only downtime was 30 minutes to 1 hour during the actual switch. I found that the unmanaged VPS by default meant that the support is limited which to start was a bit of a pain but to be honest they went along with it and helped when I was truly stuck.

At one point I had a Database loss, apparently due to someone hacking my account on my site (still investigating it), and they restored the backups for me. Another time something just went wrong in the VPS and I opened a support ticket and they reinstalled the entire VPS and kept all my data safe. I was up and running again in about 15-20 minutes.

As a whole I would definitely 100% recommend then. They are one of the few hosts who genuinely care about their customers and offer them everything they can.

To make this constructive I am going to list a couple of things that in my opinion would be the icing on the cake.
  1. The Blazepoint CDN (I know it's in progress but perhaps some information on it would be very helpful :))
  2. Management plans seem to cost quite a bit. Perhaps some sort of reduction on them could have more people investing in it.
  3. Force Ben to get some sleep:rolleyes: He's the guy who's dealt with most of my support tickets, the responses have been super quick and it's always clear and straight to the point. I'm sure the rest of the staff are just as great but from what I've seen Ben does need some sleep:o

If you are considering using SharkServers then I definitely recommend them and I encourage you to sign up with them now :)

Great work SharkServers!!:)

Hello
main website looks down
my vps its down too
any update

Same here M8. Not only are they snippy about tech support over the weekend (xtra $10 charge if they don't feel it was an emergency) but I waited for Monday to send a ticket, no reply in 5 hours, then no reply after 5PM GMT. You get what you pay for M8.

My quick SharkServers linux VPS review...

What I liked:

- Instant activation upon payment
- ZIPPY network speeds :)
- Reasonable pricing
- Never was an issue, but I like that they ignore DMCA

Room for improvement:

- Please offer a 1GB port. 100Mbit is very 1990's.
- DDoS protection options would be handy

Overall, very happy with these guys!!

Thanks for your input. Let me address the concerns you have:

While we would be very happy to offer Gbps link, please keep in mind that we're a relatively small company that operates our own private infrastructure. A dedicated gigabit link with backbone provider costs around $1500 per month. Now imagine that all our customers would want to take advantage of that link. This means that we would need multiples of such connections and the cost to us would skyrocket - I hope it goes without saying that at the prices we're selling our services for, such link is not possible at this time. Another issue with this is that many of our customers misunderstand what "ignoring DMCA" means. Many think that it allows them to hack, DDoS and do other bad things (which we prohibit in our ToS specifically) - they don't understand that DMCA has nothing to do with hacking and DDoS - it's a copyright thing. Because of this misconception, several customers have attempted to use the service for launching DDoS attacks on remote systems. That saturates the uplink and speed goes down for everyone until that particular offender is shut down.

We're in process of implementing several features to proactively monitor our network and prevent the above issues before they can cause any actual problems to other customers. However, being a small company, the process of doing so is slower as we don't have millions to invest in infrastructure. Instead, we're doing it slowly, but checking that everything works along the way.

As for DDoS protection, it's also an issue of finances. You need 2 things to provide efficient DDoS protection:
1) Available bandwidth that exceeds the size of the attack;
2) Enterprise hardware that can filter the attack and only allow good traffic to pass into your network. Such hardware costs in tens of thousands of dollars.

With that said, rest assured that we're working on improving things, and I ask for your support during this time. The process is slow, but we're getting there.

Thanks for your input. May I know the ticket number, so I can evaluate the work of my staff?

Ended up switching to the vps. 90% of the time its great, but it seems to have occasional issues with disk io (as low as 2MBs). Is this being looked into? It has a noticeable performance impact.

We are aware of this and we're currently addressing the issue. This involves some hardware upgrades and automated load distribution being introduced in our network shortly, which will resolve any such problems once and for all.

you allow adult contents? just wondering

Thanks for asking. Yes, we allow adult content.

OP am I correct, do you allow bulk emailing from you VPS servers? If so that would be a good news.

Hello, how much longer is this going to take?

Have been unable to get in contact through the usual methods, sharkservers please can you give me an update on when you believe normal service will be resumed?

Ordered a VPS (Invoice 2016-8327), just wondering how long it usually takes to install DirectAdmin on your end as apparently I cannot access the server until I receive a confirmation Email of installation.

Thanks

Hi. This is being done for you right now. There are a few delays lately as we're migrating our entire infrastructure to our own facility. DirectAdmin will be ready for you in an hour or less.

Excellent, thank you.

hi
i asked for a refund almost 2 days now and i didnt get it and your support is very slow compared to other services how do i need to wait to get my refund ?

I had a 502 error for about 3 hours, was that related to the migration?

I'm not able to tell unless you open a ticket - there's no way to match your BHW username to your client account with us.

It may be because the refund policy has changed and we now only offer refunds for full unused months. If you are on monthly billing and decide to cancel the service before the month is over, you will not normally get a refund. However, we do make exceptions on case-by-case basis, so if your ticket is still open, that means that the staff is looking into it to decide whether a refund can be offered. The billing team is very busy at this time due to switching billing platform, so there are some delays. My apologies for that. If you could PM me your ticket number, I'll take a look at it myself.

Is that Cogent bandwidth?

No, it's not Cogent

I ordered but have not got login email. Invoice #2016-8399. Kindly send me login email asap
