Forum and YouTube comment backlinks

OK guys so I've found some okay keywords, lots of searches... no competition.

In the top 10 results for these keywords there's ALWAYS a bunch of youtube videos and forum posts on old, non-moderated forums.

I was thinking, would it be bad practice to stuff my link in there once or twice if it's not a nofollow? Technically my link is now on a #1 result for that keyword, even if it is a forum post. Would it work and is this white hat?

Manually comment something relevant AND helpful, even if the forum is old, even if it is no-follow. Besides SEO, it might bring traffic just from referrals.

Agree with the above - do it even if it's nofollow but do it responsibly by trying to add value to the page not just spamming a link.

As for the white hat question - if you're doing it to try and rank your site then strictly speaking it's blackhat,but don't worry yourself about the colour of the hat its a very low risk strategy.

Totally agree with "patriotnews". Go for manual submission, don't manipulate forums. You can get some traffic from there and track that traffic with the help of analytics.

For the follow/no-follow part, don't worry as u are only using forum platform for generating traffic and backlink profile should be a mix of both follow/nofollow.

Just do it manually and in limit.

Yes it is a good idea. Just as stated above, do not spam as this will lead you to only bigger issues.

OK, thanks a lot brehs. Posting my link to one crappy youtube video has boosted me from like, #239 to #36 lol. When I inspect youtube comment links it says they're not nofollow. Is this possible?

klacid, as you earlier stated that keywords have low-to-no competiiton, hence the YouTube link worked well for u. However, you can also scale this up in a very nice way if u want.

I think you can experiment this with YouTube, as you only need to find a video and post a link in comment. Just try it in limit and apart from this do some other linkbuilding stuff (that provide do-follow links). Start with some few Social links, then scaleup, observe and share results here. If this works then as stated in the twitter post just RINSE-&-REPEAT :thumb:
