Heya guys,

So im selling an old site on flippa and i see people who bid for example 100 and then in a few minutes they bid 105.
Why would they do this while they are the highest bidders at that moment?
Is this a red flag and should i refuse these bidders or is it common practise?

Regards,

DTjai

To make sure he wins the auction people do the same on ebay just timed bids trying to outbid potential other bidders.

Thank you for the answer! It seems like it should be that. There are two people bidding like that but one of them signed up two days ago. Should be fine through flippa escrow right?

Hehe, I once bidded for a mini-fridge by mistake and outbidded myself by $200 or something. The mini-fridge in-store price is like $199 :)

I am going to go with what previous poster said or that they bid by mistake, like me :)

i'm not sure about flippa, but on ebay, it doesn't make too much sense, because you can just set a maximum amount what you're willing to pay for an item, whenever someone outbids you, ebay will automatically increase your bid just with the needed increment until it reaches the max amount you set

Thank you all for you (funny) answers. I dont mind them outbidding themselves as it increases the time to 1 hour and ups the price we get. First time selling the website and already feeling like a king haha.

Why feeling like a king? Is the price you got good?

I got $410 out of it. :) It is a good price for me so yes i feel like a king.

Good for you. They might be outbidding themselves just to make sure they come out as the winners (just as others already said).

Maybe they think the system works similarly to ebay?

That is not what is happening. Bidder 1 might put in a bid at $100 but he sets up proxy bidding and say his max bid is $300. Every time someone else bids he will outbid them up to his max bid. So if he bid $100 and then someone come along and bid $105 then it will show him as bidding $110

This might be the reason. The same thing goes with Godaddy Auctions. You can set a proxy bid and then system automatically bids on your behalf.
