Ask Me Anything about selling on eBay

On good standing paypal stealth accounts with EIN & LLC attached, how much money can you pass through paypal on each month before they ask for SSN or does paypal doesn't ask for SSN at all? Is there a limit you recommend to stay below just to be safe? What is your experience on this?

IIRC, they do not ask for SSN on business accounts in most cases if your LLC is multi-party. They may ask for SSN if you do a sole proprietorship or single person LLC.

Oh ok, well this is a bit safer anyway as it can be done via API. Not to worry.

I'm pretty sure you're right that it's safe. I just don't want to deal with eBay provided tools because in general they suck.

I think its a bit more complex then that. SSN should match a person first and last name otherwise paypal will get a false response back from when they check the numbers. The EIN should match the business name. Maybe if an the llc is a first and last name then maybe it would work. I don't know for sure since i never tried it.

I heard from other users on other forums that $15,000 a month is a safe number for a paypal account with EIN attached. And if you start go over paypal's magic number then they'll put a hold on your account asking for SSN even though you already supplied them your EIN.

I was wondering if it could go higher. If so, that means less paypal accounts are needed to run stealth with legitimate sales. Hopefully tom can answer with his experience.

Ok, just had a quick Google. There is some mixed advice in the links but the general consensus is that you don't need to provide an SSN if you have already provided an EIN.

The website may request an SSN etc but you should call PayPal and explain the situation. They will resolve you account. You should ensure however that you bank account etc is in the name of the company that you have provided the EIN for...

Well this isn't really a program per se, just a bunch of WebServices. I will write my own programs for it so literally the only way they can link my accounts is via IP Address and possibly any information I provide in my listings etc.

In fact, before I scale up with multiple Stealth LLCs I plan on having software tools to do all my interaction with eBay so I don't need to use the website at all. When that is the case, all I will need worry about is IP addresses.

That's the plan anyway.. and we all know what they say about the best laid plans lol...

The EIN should match the business name.

Not necessarily when it comes to business names because you may have registered at eBay/paypal with your DBA. I'm reasonably sure that when they check the validity of EIN it's like them checking bank accounts. The info they get is whether the DBA is valid and active but they get no other info unless they do some digging which they don't do because it's the job of the IRS unless shady stuff is involved

1. I have had that much and more go through a paypal and they have not asked me for SSN. What good would SSN do for them if you're a multi-party LLC?

2. I think you may be thinking about risk assessment by their credit department, not having to present SSN for tax purposes. Like credit card processing companies, paypal does risk assessment at some level between $5k to $20K a month level to see if there is ask risk to them that you'll build up a massive account, stop shipping, and take off with the money. It is for this purpose that they would ask for SSN of the owner, not because of tax implications.

Tom,

Thanks for taking time to answer my question.

Thats good to know. It further clarifies what I understood about whats being verified.

1. Thanks for the information. Now i feel much safer pushing my stealth accounts further.

2. No, I was specifically referring to SSN requirement for going over a magic limit paypal has set. I had place this 15k limit on my accounts mainly because I didn't test it myself and i was going based off what i heard on another forum. So i guess there isn't a magic threshold after all or if there is, i'm no where near it. Thanks again.

So you think paypal may or may not know if the EIN is single member LLC or multi party LLC? I wish I had the screenshot of when they ask if we want to input an SSN or EIN. Its been a while and i cant remember if I seen Sole proprietorship as a separate selection or not.

No, there is no magic thresh hold, and if they ask for SSN it's not coming from the same department that's asking for SSN for tax verification purposes.

They ask you when you put in the Tax ID # if it is for sole proprietorship or not. Asking for SS# for a business is most often done as part of the business credit file as they may ask the owner to act as a guarantor. So if you ask for paypal credit or paypal debit card, they may ask you for SS# at some point. That is why I say give paypal/eBay as little info as possible to conduct business of selling stuff and don't use their other services.

What items/categories are high risk and thus should be avoided to have a long term business?

What items/categories are high risk and thus should be avoided to have a long term business?

Apple and Microsoft products, companies who are known to have agressive VERO takedown operations, cosmetics, name brand handbags and accessories, laptops, new phones, consumer electronics like Xbox, etc. You can sell these after a while but you will get banned quickly if you screw up while selling these.

What would bbe the repercussions for offering 2 day handling time instead of 1 day handling time and 3-5 day shipping instead of 2 day shipping? Would it prevent me becoming a power seller?

Hey bro - I think you need to be less lazy and research this kind of thing yourself. eBay has good documentation which you should read up before asking plain questions here.

Hi Tom!
I got ban 2 weeks ago my paypal account but ebay account is still working without problems! 4 months I was selling goods for 3k eur of net profit but now I cant make it because my paypal permamently banned. Can I connect my anotther PP acc without problems or I will get ban in PP and ebay instantly? I sold HQ fake items... All my buyers was satisfied and I have 100% positives feedbacks without disputes!

Second qustion about my new stealh ebay and pp acc.. I listed 24h ago new lot on ebay but have no one views during this time and I cant find my lot through search... Whats wrong with this lot ? I choose correct directory, make good title and description, lot's cost the smallest in ebay... Another lots with same item are sold every day 10 times..

I can't find any software for my needs, maybe someone here can recommend. It has to be legit and has to have trial period without paying in front (like other legit software companies do)
I'm drop shipping (UK based) from Amazon to eBay. I'd like to have a software where I can automate things like:

1. Find Amazon Prime products and filter them by price and categories.
2. Auto list to eBay with full product descriptions, images, identifiers like EAN and MPN.
3. Take full auto control over Amazon price fluctuations and stock quantity also auto end the listing when not in stock or when not Prime any more.

I have done my research and I have come up only with some scammers who ask you to pay in front and in the end nothing works.
Please recommend only legitimate and proven software that really works (if it exist)

Regards

Hey man, as you have discovered something like this isn't really readily available on the market. Why?

Because, software that works well like that is what some people would call "a licence to print money" so the people who make it just bank from eBay themselves. It's not worth the hassle of selling to and managing customers.

If you are serious you need to stump up some cash and pay a developer to develop your own solution. If you are friendly with a few other dropshippers then perhaps you can team up and split the cost while sharing the use of the software.

It's really the only way.

Harrisson,

It doesn't sound like you are anywhere committed to making this a business.

You have to spend money to make money most of the time. I don't know why people need free anything. If you can't afford it, then maybe you just aren't ready.

There are plenty of services available. The easiest service to recommend is PriceYak(tested, it has been the gold standard there are better software solutions now), Pricematik (never tried it), Arbitrize(they do have free 14 day trial but onboarding takes awhile. However customer support is a joke), Hydra/SKUgrid.

Good luck. Get pumped and learn on your own... If you don't have time, do something else.

Hey bro, the name of the OP's thread is "Ask Me Anything about selling on eBay".....get it? It means ask any question, not just the questions that you deem worthy. Nothing to do with laziness.

Thank you Tom for the great advice especially the commandments. Nevertheless, in my opinion drop shipping is never as easy as people may seem to put it, sometimes you may miss to do the calculations of margins well you find yourself on the loosing end, secondly a buyer may cancel the transaction and demand for a refund. The whole challenge also is dealing with someone whom you have never met and others may be untrustworthy. Intercontinental trade as well may seem best for those who can handle bulk and experienced but not for starters. I tried doing drop-shipping but i am yet to master it, every day is an opportunity to learn.
