in other words, would having 2 wheels each created of different web 2.0 sites but all using the same keyword and all focusing on the same page? would that look spammy?

Yeah, certainly wouldn't hurt to have as many wheels going as you can. As long as they all circle around the same niche you should be rocking it.

The way I understand it is that the 6 properties used in the wheel is not a magic number. It is used more as an example and as a minimum.
So your wheel could have 8, 10, 12, or even more web 2.0 properties all focusing on the on the same page and using the same keyword. Just complete the wheel by pointing them to each other and at your main page.
You can also build wheels around each individual spoke or web 2.0 property to increase its effect.

thanks guys, yeah I understand all the points raised. My focus site is a standard website of mine. I have created one 6 site linkwheel using my main keyword pointing to my index.html page (my main page). I am building another linkwheel with different properties with the focus page being a subpage of my main site e.g. mysite.com/keyword2. All the 2nd wheels will point to this sub page.

All seems fine, it just popped into my head could you do another wheel, at a later date, focusing again on the index.html page using the same keyword but using different web 2.0 sites. It was just a thought.

Or maybe I just expand the initial wheel to contain more web 2.0 sites, and just go through each site, update the links, tweak some words etc, ping and see what happens. mmmmmm

Plus all the sites are 100% unique, I wrote new content for each web 2.0 site, so hoping that will help the longevity of my wheel
