does the enigma of saturation actually exist??

Can someone show me a actual example of such a event occuring...
Where the advertising platform or the idea is so abused it becomes worthless.

I hear people go on and on about saturation, but I'm wondering if that is really a legit concern, or just a phobia to excuse lack of results due to lack of effort!... Like sure alot of people spam social networks... but as long as the audience remains the possibility of conversion exists... or so I was thinking.

What would qualify as saturation... I know aim chatrooms are raped by bot whores.

but the thing with a bot is unless there is a bunch of other high tech marketing targetting where you target, its unlikely it'd become saturated even there I'd think...

Worthless is too strong a word.

Saturation occurs when an niche or marketing platform is abused to the point that either the marketing platform spam prevention or the low conversion rates makes it not worth the time and effort.

At that point you either move on to a different niche/offer or find a new method of advertising on that platform. But that does not change the fact that the method you are moving away from has been saturated.

Niche example: ringtones
Marketing method example: Myspace bulletins.

What do you mean about "enigma of saturation"?
completely new to me

err... I don't think myspace bulletins and ringtones are exploited. my bulletins say nothing about ringtones... so...

and in my opinion thats not a category of its own to be saturated... its so... out of a 'how to' ebook. The category would be myspace/ringtones. There is groups to post in myspace, bulletins, pms, chat, comments, blogs everything.

personally, I think bulletins is the worst way to go, but truly of all the 'saturation' a few couple bulletins to a list of used up and abused friends will definitely not see any results.

I want something tangible and provable as 'saturated'

enigma-

a puzzling or inexplicable occurrence or situation: His disappearance is an enigma that has given rise to much speculation.
2. a person of puzzling or contradictory character: To me he has always been an enigma, one minute completely insensitive, the next moved to tears.
3. a saying, question, picture, etc., containing a hidden meaning; riddle.
4. (initial capital letter) a German-built enciphering machine developed for commercial use in the early 1920s and later adapted and appropriated by German and other Axis powers for military use through World War II.

AKA

I'm calling the general assumption of saturation existing a crock of shit and asking for someone to prove me otherwise.

I believe that a market can never really be satured.

If you think a bit outside the box there's always a way you can do something differently to others and outrank them.

YES, it can get harder but never saturated.

e.g. ppc has got much harder than before, but ALOT of people still make a killing.

I'd watch ppi on p2p networks/torrent sites pretty closely for this in the coming weeks/months. It seems like everyone's getting into it all of a sudden, and there're only a handful of decent affiliates to go through and "common" downloaders. You can only install on the same group of people for so long before they get wise to ya.

the only thing that happens in a saturated market is that prices go DOWN>

the greedy will make less...................better try better customer service!

ex..............Walmart.

what?
your shit nevers makes a lick of sense

It's all in your conversions ratios. If growth starts to slow that's possible an aberration of saturation.

One example: The whole craigslist / dating thing, people begin start to catch on, you get messages saying "are u for real?" and such. The solution to this would be trying other niches which I am currently doing.

Agreed 120% on that one. I have a buddy that is doing very well with PPC in a very competitive market. He is just a bit more cunning than most.

saturation happens all the time.. and that is why systems change. the latest example is the ebay policy on digital ebooks. they can see many people doing the "paying for feedback" stuff, lot of people are now doing it (oversaturation), so they change the system in place.

Thats a saturation of ebay inside of itself though,
not a separate place you're going to market on like communities and search engines.

All you just did was prove that different people have different definitions of what saturation is. You see it all the time. What might seem saturated and not worth my time to me (ringtones for example) might not seem so to you.

Your first reply to my post was a perfect example..... You asked for an example. I gave you 2. I gave ringtones as an example of a NICHE that's saturated and Myspace Bulletins as an example of a METHOD that's saturated.... Instead of telling me how those are not saturated you responded by redefining what a category is "in your opinion" :D

And that's fair enough because in my post I also stated my definition of what saturation is.
Saturation occurs when an niche or marketing platform is abused to the point that either the marketing platform spam prevention or the low conversion rates makes it not worth the time and effort.

It seems to me what you're trying to do is pigeon-hole it into an impossible definition. Like saturation means it is no longer possible to make money in that niche. And that's just ridiculous. Of course someone somewhere could figure out a way to make money in any niche no matter how saturated. But that doesn't change the fact that it's saturated.

So to me a saturated market is just a market that you have to work harder in because it's full of gold rush people all trying to make money off of it.

Selling eBooks on eBay.
The market is saturated with scores of users hawking the same eBooks for $0.99 Although a new eBook may be well received, unless you are the author and police the copyright constantly, it too will eventually be duped and sold for pocket change.

First post. Hi all!

heh. Didn't read the entire thread. Looks like eBooks on eBay was covered by gts6

i dont think e-books on ebay are saturated...

i have friends who are platinum powersellers JUST from selling there e-books

that doesnt mean its not saturated, its very possible to still profit in a saturated market, but supply and demand says the more options there are for an ebook, and limited amount of buyers, your chances of grabbing the sale grow slimmer, as someone else may now get the sales instead of you.

it is very possible, and likely, you will still be profitable, but saturation does exist, and as it grows, your odds grow slimmer. there IS a difference between being profitable and being saturated. but, it can be both at the same time.
