I had been using hostwinds for 2 years now,and they were fine, not best, but cheat and good. But they have a lots of down time, because of their hosting getting some ddos attacks my sites were down for like 3 days (different time, not in a row),and I lost some money because of it. They are offerening me ddos protection for 100$ per month (for that money I could buy good vps). Best thing is I really don't think somebody ddos my websites,it was probably all sites in that server,or something like that, I really don't know because I am not expert, but what I know is they are bad. They are getting worse then before, and chat support is bad.

I don't want to hate on them, but I just feel like i should WARN you, about them. There are few hostings that cost a little bit more, but they don't have down time like hostwinds, and have far better protection etc.
I did tested them,my friend also, for example I tested siteground,my friend did inmotion hosting and siteground, same websites, with similar traffic. I have results somewhere on analytics I can send them if somebody want but I don't want to make huge thing about this. Just saying my opinion about them.

Also at the moment I am talking with hostwinds chat support and they don't answer. First they said it is not bad for SEO,etc, and when I told them that I am losing money they didn't answered for 20 minutes now. Just saying my opinion.

$100/month DDOS protection is really high price. You can get Cloudflare (free) + Vultr VPS with DDOS protection for $15/mo...

I know. I could get 2 good vps with some protection for that money. I am on siteground now,but I will look into other hostings as well. I will see what I will do :)

F that crap OP.

I've been with hostwinds for like 2-3 years now and I know they are the freaking best out there.

Ye yea i know there are better more solid hosting companies there, but for a company that gives me everything for $5 a month, its well worth it.

Never had any problem with Hostwind either, it has been 1.5 years i think.

You go to any shared web hosting, and the chat support is the same. They are all outsourced, what do you expect? If like what you said for the price you can get a vps, then get a vps. No point outing any shared web hosting because they are all the same.

You can try stablehost, they chat is pretty fast. But it's nowhere near instant as you would expect. Nobody offers instant without paying more.

Actually it will look like I am marketing Siteground, but they over 20 people on chat, lol, and they are like super fast, their chat support is just so good,I thought it was fake. I spend 2 hours chatting with one guy from support (about relative things of course). On the other side hostwinds support is good, until there is problem, then they don't want to help.

Your site was directly attacked with 15+Gbps inbound DDOS attacks, this was not related to our hosting at all. We have not had any downtime of any kind. The reason your website is offline, is because we null routed your IP address as a result of the inbound DDOS attack. Our staff has offered you DDOS protection for $100 a month, which we nicely discounted to only $50 a month for you, as it is a result of you being currently under attack. It costs us huge amounts of money to combat such large DDOS attacks (in terms of bandwidth bills) The only way we can afford to mitigate these attacks is by selling our DDOS protection. Our offering for DDOS protection, is comprehensive and priced reasonably.

I absolutely want to help you out, I can give you your first month of protection, for only $25 and then you can even cancel before the next month starts (and hopefully the attacks will have stopped by then) Shoot me a PM if you want to take me up on my offer.

Also you could add your site to CloudFlare, and then have us swap out your IP after your site is successfully behind CloudFlare, for a free alternative.

We do not outsource ANY of our support, you can open a live chat, or give us a call anytime. You will always speak to a friendly USA based employee, 24/7/365

i love hostwinds mate, i really do, i pay 6.75$/month and its well worth, i always thank the guy on the chat support whenever i go there, i used to receive warnings about their servers being ddos'ed in summer, last 3 months everything is great for me.

Yea,now you know all info here on forum, and when I ask you what is happening on chat, you don't know anything. Also I had Cloudflare on my website. And when I asked you on chat you didn't answered. I asked you few more times nothing. If you maybe explained to me what is going on right away or something, maybe I wouldn't have to open this thread.

We have a large staff, the staff member that you spoke with did not have all of the information. If you had cloudflare on your website, then the attacker has discovered your origin IP, and you need to change it immediately. Please make sure that ALL websites on your account are using CloudFlare, also please note that simply using the cloudflare plugin found in your cPanel account does not effectively mask your IP, you will need to actually use cloudflare's nameservers, and also ensure that you do not have any records unprotected directly pointing back to the origin server. This includes MX records, etc.

I see the DDOS attack has stopped, and so I have lifted the null route on your IP address. Please open a ticket when you are ready, requesting that my staff change your IP address, as chances are you will be attacked again.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

Hostwinds has always responded well to my queries and doubts.
I am waiting for Black friday deal from hostwinds to place an order.

Agreed.

Been no down time at all for me, apart from one time on shared hosting where someone was hogging the shit out of the server, even then within ten minutes of me alerting them the person was suspended.

Always had great support from them.

Lol the "ddos protection" i know that part, my site got ddosed and went down, asked if they could put it back up and see if that happends again(news site) NOPE they wouldnt, same happend to me, offer me to buy a ddos protection for over 100$a month,

Total horseshit.

Hostwinds is not bad at all.

You can't expect them to put a site back up that's being DDOS'd without any protection so that they lose money and the other customers on the shared host get a crappy experience.

Been with hostwinds for 11 months and never had a issue.

My GoDaddy Hosting ran out seems HostWinds is the best option and cheapest, I'll be waiting for the Black Friday Deals Tommorow :D

I've been faithfully using Hostwinds for years. The only issues I've ever had with them, were of my own doing, and cannot fault them for anything. Their support has been top notch. Their staff is extremely friendly. Everything is super easy to navigate to. Their prices are great, for their hosting. I've purchased domains from them, but prefer Namecheap for domains, for the free WHOIS protection, at a low rate, but as soon as I purchase my domain, they get hosted at Hostwinds. I've hosted with FDCservers, Bluehost, Hostgator, CirtexHosting, GoDaddy, Namecheap, and some others that I know I'm forgetting, and BY FAR, my greatest hosting experiences have been with Hostwinds.

I was close to try their VPS then I saw their pricing was too low so then I went with dreamhost

And now there is 10 people commenting how hostwinds is great. LOL,something fishy. Also I am on siteground now, cost double, but my site is never down, its not my site that got ddos, its their servers, they just want to wash themselfes.
