Why are people still talking about Weebly?

The robots.txt on all of the free Weebly blogs say the following:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Do old blogs still have to pay? I see BST threads selling PR2 weebly blogs, so they'd be worthless if you have to pay the $5 per month or whatever to remove the search engine blocking robots.txt.

It means your blogs won't be indexed.

Think i read that if you cant check/uncheck the "hide site from search engines" box then you may as well dump the site. If you can check/uncheck the box then your good to go.

I read a thread about this a few days ago right here on BHW.

If I remember correctly, someone said that it's just the newly created Weebly's that are not getting indexed, unless you pay/upgrade.

However, older Weebly sites, ones created before this new rule was implemented, they're still okay.

So I guess if you buy a Weebly site that was created some time ago, you'll still be able to use it and it will get indexed and everything.

Although I would suggest if anyone does go out to buy a Weebly blog, make sure to ask and later check that the blog you're buyin is and can be indexed.

Weebly has some decent authority. It is no longer considered a spam platform (it was)
If you are creating a tier one link structure of say 30 or 40 sites as a mixed profile with some PBN elements etc, then $5 is nothing.

Of course if you are a micro site marketer looking to rank dozens of sites it's probably a no-go. But for those creating 1 or 2 authority sites, spending a few dollars on these costs is nothing.
I pay for Wordpress, Weebly, Blogger etc, a few hundred dollars a year in total.

The OP is right though. If you don't pay - it doesn't show.
If I was creating a new Tier one now (and I won't be refreshing until next year now) I probably wouldn't choose Weebly again, but it is fine as it is right now.

The problem with that is that most people won't pay and wordpress and blogger will always have a free option.

But yes, Weebly is dead, I no longer list it in the options for places I will create Web 2.0's for clients.

I always hated services like weebly, but I did not knew that they are blockings search engine blocks. Thats really retarded from them.

It's not only going to effect black hatters, but rather anyone who wants to promote themselves. It's a neat monetization idea but it's going to hurt their bottom line.

Ha, I was just about to post this, I just had a chat with them, how stupid of a move this is. They are dead in the water :/. I also just paid for a service and they used weebly, they better make a new one (different site)...
