a VM on a Windows PC with remote access

Dear BHW friends,

Here's what I have:
- a Windows PC (win 10 I believe with 8 or 16 GB of RAM)

Here's what I need:
- to install a Windows VM
- to access this VM remotely
- the pheriperals used for the VM to not interfere with the ones the PC has

Is this possible? Basically, I have a friend in Germany, and I need his computer from time to time to access some websites. I can not use a VPN/proxy/whatever because none of those works. Therefore I am thiking that maybe it's possible to install something on his PC, either a VM, or something else, that can grant me access on his PC, yet I would not disturb him from what he does on his PC. Is this possible?

Well, obviously if you're opening applications and stuff on his computer it would interfere with him. It may be possible but from what I know of how this works (and the setup I use to access my desktop PC from my laptop) it would disturb him if he's on the computer as any application you open/run will open/run so he will see it/it will get in the way. Not sure if there's a way to run a second/hidden instance of windows in the background and call to that but it may be possible and I'd think that's your only bet.

I did a quick google search and found the software "softxpand" which basically turns one physical pc to two virtual so 2 persons can use one pc, playing the same game in multiplayer for example. You can combine that with teamviewer (be sure to tune teamviewer to power up and login on each system startup).

2. Create a small virtual disk, install Windows and start it.
3. Configure remote desktop / vnc server.
4. Open required incoming ports in router and firewall, they might be closed by default.
5. Keep the VM running & profit

Duh!

This is the solution for sure, install VMWare or other virtual machine and then access it remotely to run all your software, the guy on the computer wont see anything. I even use VMWare and didn't think of that haha.

Well after taking to my friend, he told me that he can't help me with this as it's too complicated for him and that it would drain too much resources. Anyway I can rent a remote desktop?

Any Windows VPS should meet your needs in these regards. Of course the specs are dependent upon how complicated the tasks are that you need to accomplish. I used to use my windows VPS's as seed boxes for use with "The Dirty Tactic" years ago. They're easy to setup and operate essentially the same way any windows system does.

I see. By "any Windows VPS" are you reffering even to 512 MB ram VPS's? Because all I want to do it browse, yet the platform (website actually) I'm browsing is made in flash. I know flash consumes quite a lot resources. Therefore will such a VPS do the job or do I need like 1 GB ram, or maybe 2 GB ram VPS?

Of course, this is the way to go. You have enough RAM to do it as well.
Only issues you are going to face is CPU and disk activity - assuming you are going to run tools on the VM or something, they are going to be demanding on those two resources rather than RAM hungry.

Whenever I see someone doing this stuff I always think its better in the long run to get a VM - you can get virtual machines so cheap now its just not worth the hassle trying to run things on home-grown hardware IMHO.

OP, If you cant do the vmware thing as mentioned above then you should have no problems 'just browsing' with a cheap VPS that is in you desired country.

Thats if you are 100% sure you cant do it from your own PC with either proxies or a VPN.

I am 100% sure I can't browse from my own PC with proxies or VPN (as I already tested that). Beside this, the website I would like to access is in flash.

To clear things out, the website is - http://www.bet365.com - and unfortunately I have read on the internet that through flash even if using a proxy/VPN your real IP can be detected. And they are very unfriendly with proxies & VPN's.

Considering this, what VM would I require to navigate on their website with ease? I have an MSI GT 70 desktop replacement so at my end, everything is good, yet I consider that the VPN would require at least 512 MB RAM so I can browse flawless, right? Or maybe 1 GB RAM?
