Do You Think Twitter is Failing?

I don't use Twitter. I pretty much stick to Facebook, but I don't rely on any type of social media outlet for my business. But the author said, and I quote:

I don?t want Twitter to fail. I want it to succeed because, like Saladin, it?s where I?ve centred my online professional life.
Maybe they?ll pull it off. Maybe they?ve already got a handle on their dev and design dysfunctions. But nothing they are saying or doing publicly makes me think so.
There is nothing to indicate that they understand the risks they are taking.
And, like Saladin, that stresses me out.

You've got to read the article to see who Saladin is and what he's talking about, but it looks to me like some people are getting really stressed out bc they think Twitter is about to fail.

I've been seeing a lot of people say this. It reminds me of the "SEO is dead" thing. However, I did agree with one point the author made: Twitter needs to get its shit together when it comes to allowing people to harass and abuse others with no consequences. I'm not talking about telling someone they're ugly or they suck. I'm talking about rape threats, threats of violence and similar things.

The article also talks about the way Twitter runs its business and how crappy the user experience and mobile apps are. According to the author, these are contributing to the failure of Twitter.

Anyway, what do you think? Do you agree with some of the points being made? Is Twitter failing? Or is this just another one of those unfounded rumors?

I absolutley think twitter is going to fail! It is a pain in the ass to follow people haha! I really do not like twitter at all. I think it absolutley sucks! I am also saying this because I just do not know how to use it correctly you could say. But I just do not like anything about twitter.

I don't use it either. I know how it works, but I don't feel like getting involved in it. I agree with Tree: wtf can you say in 140 characters? Not enough, apparently, bc the article talks about how much the 140 character limit sucks ass.

I don't think there's a lack of Twitter users, but I do know they're under pressure to perform since they went public, and they haven't done anything innovative. Also, last time I checked, advertising there is pretty pricey.

I hope it doesn't cause in my opinion it's way better to drive traffic than instagram for example.
Also it's not as stupid as all the other networks (ig, fb) where only stupid people talk about random shit.

On Twitter sometimes you can meet people of value. No big CEO is on fb or ig but sometimes they are using twitter.

Its failing statically in growth but I don't think it will fail like myspace did.

Twitter is still popular and used by pretty much every celeb you can think of.

Twitter is sitting at 53 million users. Biggest things keeping it alive in my opinion are that

A. It's sort of a brain dump. All other social medias people censor themselves.. Twitter is much more in the moment

B. Celebrities. Twitter is the number one way of feeling connected with your favorite celebrities.

If I go to a famous artists Facebook page it's going to be really professional. If I go to his twitter page I'm going to get to hear his views and opinions.. maybe see his sense of humor

I think it may be around for a long time but eventually will die off. Unlike Facebook so many people have a ton of personal information. I still think that it's important to use it to its fullest capabilities since there are millions of users on it still. opportunity is everywhere.

Twitter is not failing at all. Its one of the best short messaging service over social media, also generating some great traffic as well as generate a handsome amount for your pocket

I don't think it's failing but they are trying every stupid idea to stay on top (polls, likes, pinned tweets) I dont see anything ever social media wise ever taking over Twitter. Its the fastest way to learn about anything NEW whether its sports politics or anything else for that matter. They only way I can see a new thing taking over is if all the famous ppl migrated in a short amount of time

No way I don't think it will fail. Where Facebook offers a window into the lives of your friends Twitter offers a window to the world - it's one of the best real time communication streams out there.

As said above you can follow any expert in any field and get snippets of their knowledge all directed to one data feed.
You can also get news from anywhere in the world straight from the unaltered front line. Very cool platform IMHO.

The whole point of my first post was basically to explain how stupid 140 character posts are, obviously making my point in exactly 140 characters.

you don't need to say intelligent things on Twitter (only 140 signs) and you can easily be connected to celebrities. Twitter can't fail.

I tend to agree that a lot of celebrities jump on Twitter, and it's a real world response system. FB is more professional. Twitter is more real. Twitter always has some drama going on too. People don't filter themselves on Twitter. That's why celebrities are always in the news for saying stupid stuff on Twitter.

I think I got away from it bc of the drama. I just...can't handle a lot of stupidity in one day. I would get on Twitter to check out my feed and everything was so vapid I felt like I had a legion of teenage girls following me. So I stopped.

I think the pressure to stay on top comes from investors. They're publicly traded now. Investors want a return on their investment, so Twitter is trying to make that happen. It just needs to stick to what it's good at, which is being a place where the masses gather to express themselves freely, and where I avoid being seen.

Also, you're free to spam Twitter and push things much more than you can do with fucking facebook and youtube and others.

I keep hearing this.

Part of it is Twitter's lax approach at disciplining people. They don't seem to want to step on any toes, so they ignore blatant abuse of the system. I heard of people getting Twitter accounts banned but I've also heard of people who make a nice living off of IM using Twitter.

The niche on my blog is probably better served on Twitter and IG than on FB. But I just can't bring myself to invest in Twitter or IG. I feel like I'm wasting time when I do. :|
