Does linux take up less resources if I wanna use it on a low end server?

Since Ive been getting into coding I keep hearing linux is the way to go sooner or later.

So would it be a good idea to install linux on a cheap vps since i figure I wouldnt have to mess around with finding keys for a windows version and it would likely take less resources? which is important when Im using a budget server.

Would it take alot to learn to navigate in that environment if im only used to windows? I only will want to run my python scripts and stuff like that so guess it wouldnt be much hassle?

For what you want to do yes, Linux will take up less resources for sure - I take it your gonna go for she'll only (no gui)...
You can learn the basics pretty quick, takes a long time to become proficient though.

um i dont know. So your saying better to do the former? So no windows. like redhat or something? I might need windows to run zennoposter now I think about it.

Eventually i want all my bots remade in python but i still have alot to run in zp for now so I guess windows will be required.

Why not just run virtualbox on your local machine with a linux distribution as a VM? It'll cost you nothing and you can still learn Linux

If you want windows there is Windows MiniXP or MicroXP, and Windows 7 Lite or Tiny7.

If the software you're using runs on Linux, go for Linux. It has a learning curve, but you're learning something useful. The basic folder navigation and management is not hard and you even have some GUI if you want to, but really getting into the system is something that may take years, depending on what you're doing. You can use it for systems with less resources, just research from the plethora of distributions and you can find one that meets your needs.

If your software runs on Windows, there's not much of a choice, is there?

Most programs written are PHP these days, which can be develop on windows and runs almost exactly how it would on linux.
Windows is way better for automation because you get way more software to control.

Linux takes up less resources and good to run apache/nginx under, but your personal OS should be windows, and desktop
programs should be windows
