GooG Profiles SEO as Crimminals

Wow... Much debate going on but a couple in the "blogosphere" are starting to get worried about SEO and how Goog profiles them.

It looks to me like the WH will converge into the Grey area without changing anything due to the internal attitude at Goog. Which will either mean more mainstream acceptance for certain BH activities, or more competition.

This information (ranking algorithms) shouldn't even be public knowledge anyway, and to then complain when google change their algorithms, as if Google are responsible with providing you with a step by step guide on how to fool their spiders, is stupid.

Google search's customers are the searchers, not the webmasters. Their objective is to index the internet and provide the most appropiate and best results based on what the user searched for. If they do it well, people use it. If they don't, the masses will move to a SE that does it better. It's that simple.

In the greater picture, does SEO hurt the internet? Yeah, I don't think anyone can seriously think about it and say SEO is good for the internet.

I still do it though, because I need money.

Google always b!tches about seo's. Mainly because they can't control us and we compromise their integrity.

SIDE NOTE: Google aquired a SEO (double click subsidiary) company when they acquired double click... I believe they have now sold it due to the controversy but, still... Google does things when it's convenient for them.

...because they've been SEOed? The objective would be to get better site, with better content, above the lesser SOEed site. Clearly google aren't going to nuke a quality site by 10 pages if they smell SOE.

They already do punish sites who attempt to fool their spiders anyway; I don't think anyone is arguing the merit of disincentivising SEO from a quality-of-service perspective.

They're concerned whether or not Google can establish that your site is configured with a consideration for how to exploit their spiders, or if that simply happens to be the way you write your content and structure your site.

They can't establish intent before penalising, basically.

I do concur with that, but like I said, no web user is forced to use Google. There's no shortage of SEs, and Google are well aware that if their search results are inaccurate, people will go elsewhere for their searches.

Heck, if Google's market share drops, SEO becomes more difficult anyway. How do you optimise for 5 different algorithms?

Google is full of shit. I find this amazing that some people still believe in anything matt cutts is saying.
They are profiling everyone but every day another site finds a loophole and gets to the top while legit sites get hammered consistently for years.
It's simple, they can't detect most spam, so what they do now is shuffling rankings just in case it could get some SEOs fired. Assholes. I don't trust google, they look like communist china to me.

The level of monitoring they can afford is quite overwhelming. I got my first Google "investigative" visits to a (clumsily) optimized site back in Nov.2005, site with almost nulltraffic. Some robot checked 30 or 40 times, almost daily, testing I am not sure what, on a X11 machine on LEvel3 networks, exactly as other people reported in lots of threads at the time

In the end I banned the bot at .htaccess level .

Of course Google doesnt like SEO, they aren't nearly as good at catching spammers and blackhats as they claim to be and they aren't a company who like being gamed, so every once in a while Matt Cutts sounds off in the hope of scaring some novices into being good little netizens. Google really are not the good guys, they are a profit driven advertising company first and foremost.
