The famous twitter "Favorite" becomes "Like".

I just noticed Twitter has officially done away with it's "favorite", and is now calling them "Likes".
They've also changed the icon to a hear:

Haha yep just saw that today too. Makes sense IMO. Think that's going to be one of the new universal digital currencies for the forseeable future.

I believe people will be more keen to "like" a tweet, compared to "favoriting" it.
The term "favorite" implies a higher level of appreciation than people might have been comfortable with.

I have "favorited" thousands of tweets, but only a handful of them are actually my favorite tweets.
So it wouldn't be surprising if we start seeing a higher ratio of likes, compared to before.

Not sure what to think other than that this must somehow tie back to some monetization angle they're trying to work. Did those guys ever figure out a way to generate any real revenue at Twitter. Seems like a lot of their users make money, but they don't. Now that they'll have an actively engaged "like" button they'll have measurable data that can correlate to pricing for ad inventory, etc.... I don't particularly think it's a great move for Twitter, but I'm certain they know better than I do about that.

Yea it got me anyway.

I never used the "Favourite" feature because I likened it adding a bookmark or favourite from the IE days. Why would I want to save a tweet for future reference.

Now that it's like I guess i'm more inclined to use the feature.. in fact I did so this morning simply because I spotted the hear and did actually find the tweet of interest.

The more important point is that Twitter is trying to move away from being as mainstream as possible. They don't want to seem like a niche platform at all. We'll see more and more of Twitter's quirkiness disappear and see it see it become a bit more like Facebook. The main goal is to be more welcoming to non-users and non-techies.

I do hope it grows, because Twitter is the platform I like best for promoting sites.

Why You think they do not make money? Just maybe not with standard - PPC .They can provide massive amounts of user data (well legally at least ) - data mining is huge now. Some governmental institutions for example could be big clients.
And media. Twitter defined the term 'social media'. So i don't think they're short on income.

I agree with this. Favorites means that I really love it in my eyes where like is like the same to a facebook like.

I prefer the "like" feature. That way, you don't have to think of me being a fan because i faved your tweet as many tweeps think
