High Quality Content - Spinning Question

I have been away from the bigger SEO game working alot more on local SEO which sits in more localised and highly relevant links. Now I know this isn't the 2000's where poorly spun articles or even just poor content is a no no these days. However my question is say I was looking to create some links from article/blogging sites (non spammy/quality). I was thinking of writing content and then hand rewriting these to create multiples.

Is this a big NO it just won't work nowadays or is it still viable. I know people used to talk about how many % unique a spun article was. Is there any number for this?

I am a person who searches but if anyone knows of any articles about SEO in 2015 which are good I would love to hear about them.

It's all depends on for which tier you're going to build links. If it's for 1st tier (directly points to your money site). Then I'd suggest you to go for at least 90% uniqueness. For lower tiers you can lower the spun content quality.

For money-site articles and tier-1 link articles, the emphasis is on original 100% unique content. If you were to submit an article with your link to a decent blog, there's a good chance that if you hand over a simple syntax rewrite of an existing article, your article will be rejected.

It is relatively easier to do the research and craft a unique article. Because if you were to rewrite the article, you will have to make the rewrite a lot different from the original--say using a different tone, write from a vertical, research and include more interesting tidbits.

To your questions, poor content and poorly spun articles don't do well with money site/high-tiered links and long-term projects.

There's no acceptable % unique figure, most of it is subjective. I've had clients who didn't mind if the content was 80% unique, I've had those who swear by 100%. 100% is not always feasible, but do try to get as high as possible, or simply establish a range.
