Microsoft says that Windows 10 will be its final release of the iconic operating system that's installed on over 90% of computers."Right now we're releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we're all still working on Windows 10," said Jerry Nixon, Microsoft's developer evangelist, at the Ignite tech conference.
Instead of releasing an entirely new and different version of its desktop OS every few years, Microsoft is taking an Apple-like approach to subsequent Windows releases, standardizing on Windows 10 as its Cupertino-based rival has done with OS X. Under this new strategy, Microsoft will deliver regular improvements to Windows through software updates.

So, is this a good thing, or a bad thing? i for one think its a great idea, i am a windows 10 user, and love it!

thoughts?

So GNU Linux is a big fan of Windows 10. Color me surprised ;)

This is idiotic, why would you do what apple does....

I'm still waiting for a new version of XP
Eeeek, i think your about 10 years to late... lol

Haha, i knew somebody would say something like that, obviously i use linux, but on home computers/laptops we use windows, because the children understand it...

In the office, linux is used! (currently ubuntu because its user friendly mostly)

Old news.

Microsoft said this long ago.
Only just found it, so i thought i would post and see what people thought?.

im not sure, maybe they see it has worked for apple, and figured it could help them? the only thing that concerns me, no matter how big microsoft will be, surely there profit comes from people going out and physically buying the new operating system, so now what they will charge us for windows updates?

Really old news BTW. Does not matter what the name will be, however, a new microsoft OS will have to be written again in 2 years to match the new hardware architecture that is developed.

So whether they call is windows 10.a or whatever for older pc systems or 10.b for newer makes zero difference.

Didnt realise it was old news, so i apologize for that.

Anyway moving on, do you think the way they have decided to turn is a good idea?

to match the new hardware architecture that is developed.

What, we're moving into 128-bits? :o Nah, there isn't going to be much change on the hardware any time soon, barring some amazing discovery that matures very fast into a commercial product.

i'm still using win7 and i don't think i'll change it in the near future.

You should try windows 10 darko. I loved windows 7, hated windows 8 with a passion but 10 is really good

which is fine, but when they drop support for windows 7, and windows 8, people wont really have a choice, look what they did with windows xp... any new up to date software is ony being developed for the latest version.

(which is a shame, because xp was amazing)

i agree, windows 10 is nice, you should try it, im sure you will like it, why they didnt do this with windows 8.1 i dont know...

people liked the apps, but liked the start menu, windows 10 just makes sense.

Does anyone know when IBM will release their new O/S that is suppose to be like Mac and way better than Windows. It's about time they brought in some competition for Windows and Mac who dominates the world today.

Anything that you have to use either Start 8 or Classic Shell to have a usable menu structure is not what I would call 'Good,' let alone "Really Good."
