Outbound links to authority sites boosting SEO?

I heard that putting outbound links to authority sites such as relevant wikipedia links / youtube videos on your pages could boost SEO.

Is there any truth to this?
Do you do it? If so how frequently?

Out bound links from your site to any authority site either high or low doesn't directly affect your SEO as such. However it does provide enhanced credibility to your content and thus helps in gaining reader's trust and thus can be considered as a good practice. However don't over do it. Maintain a proper balance between IBL and OBL and make sure to mark most of your OBLs as no follows so as not to loose too much of your page's "link-juice".

Yes it can boost SEO. Not a massive amount, but it does help. When I first read about this I added links to authority sites to one of my existing sites and it actually increased the rank slightly.

Yes it will keep your reader interested to your page and they will return to page because there is many information and visitor like to know more relevant information,Obviously Google love it.

Depends. What is your website about? Is it an IM website? If so, the primary purpose is to get your traffic over to whomever pays you money. If you link to an Authority site straight away, they might not come back.

Having said that, I alway like to link statistics to some unintelligible report or other....

So in your test linking to other sites increased your rankings?

Even if it did increase your rankings I don't see how it would out-weigh the amount of link juice lost.

But you never know, google says if you make links nofollow you still lose the link juice from the obl but when I changed over 10+ links to nofollow 5 days later I seen a bunch of green arrows in serpbook with no other SEO done.

Actually outbound links to relevant content DOES affect your rankings positively. Of course you cannot rank by just adding these outbound links but it does help.

Oh.. well... Outgoing links bleed juice. Unless something has changed fairly recently the book on on site SEO is to avoid these.

The only positive benefit in SEO linking out to authorities will give is increasing your trust flow. For those who don't know what Tf is it's "Trust Flow is a number predicting how trustworthy a page is based on how trustworthy sites tend to link to trustworthy neighbours.".

So it you manage to gain a high trust flow on your site the SEO benefits I feel would be that you will get more web masters after links from your website. Where you can achieve premium quality guest posts on your website easier.
