I received an email from [email protected] blackmailing me, probably he got my email from the previously released ashleymadison db dump. Anyway here's the content of the email:

Unfortunately your data was leaked in the recent hacking of Ashley Madison and I now have your information. I have also used your user profile to find your Facebook page, using this I can now message all of your friends and family members.

If you would like to prevent me from sharing this dirt info with all of your friends and family members (and perhaps even your employers too?) then you need to send 5 bitcoins to the following BTC address.

You may be wondering why should you and what will prevent other people from doing the same, in short you now know to change your privacy settings in Facebook so no one can view your friends/family list. So go ahead and update that now (I have a copy if you dont pay) to stop any future emails like this.

There is no way they have the logistics to start messaging everyone who doesn't pay, they would be there all day long as a full time job, and there is no income from it. If you reply then they will probably just keep asking you for more. add to spam list.

That script has also had credit card info associated with it and users on scamsurvivors have confirmed the credit card information that came in the email is theirs! If you ran a test join with a cc on Ashley Madison, it might be worthwhile taking this seriously.

I don't suggest paying of course - that's just going to get you on the hook - but I'd start the process of securing all my information (cancel credit cards, change passwords and accounts, etc) and do some pre-emptive damage control with my family.

I once did a test signup on my credit card for a gay site because we were testing a new gateway. My wife thought that was really interesting. Had a couple uncomfortable conversations but then we howled with laughter! I'm an online guy, I need my gay porn!
