Hello IMers

About me:
I'm a second year university student hoping to make enough from IM by the end of the year (end of April 2016) to take a leave of absence/drop out to travel the world.
I've dabbled in a lot of areas of IM without ever fully committing to anything. All I've made is a bit of spending money. I did make $100/day for a very short period of time using YouTube and PPD but I was discouraged when YouTube shut me down.

Goals:
- Create a source of income that allows me to be self sufficient (my parents are currently funding my studies)
- This source of income must be low maintenance, once set up it must not require more than 10 hours of my time per week
- This source of income must be 100% ethical. The customer must actually get value (not be deceived like PPD). I need to be providing an actual service to a client.

Outline:
- Build a generic site in a service niche
- Rank the site on the first page of Google for corresponding keywords (SEO will be outsourced here on BHW)
- Contact businesses that are using Google ads and offer to sell them the calls I am getting through my site

Current progress:
I have started building the site. I am done with the home page, working on the others now. I have a bit of content but will need more.

Note: If I refer to "PPC" throughout this thread, I am talking about Pay Per Call not Pay Per Click

I haven't seen too much Pay Per Call journeys here, I am sure that I will learn from this. Are you currently in a PPCall network? Best of luck in your journey.

If it wasn't clear in my post, I will just be selling calls directly to relevant businesses that are currently using Pay Per Click ads on Google

Progress:
- Signed up for Quantcast and Google Analytics and implemented on website
- Researched call tracking software and settled on https://www.calltrackingmetrics.com/ (Would like some input if anyone has anything to say about them, they seem great)
- Finished three side pages on site. It is almost done there are some finishing touches and I need to do meta tags.
- Looked into some SEO options on BHW, will contact sellers soon to ask some questions

Journey looks promising, good luck with it mate.
Keep us updated with it. :)
Another Bookmark added to the list ;)

Yeah I feel like there aren't many journeys that involve anything offline in general.

EDIT: re-read the OP.

Interesting journey. I do PPC but I buy ads online.

Keep us updated. Good luck.

Progress:
- Website is almost done
- Bought domain

Having some difficulties with my host, will need to get that fixed before moving forward

Progress:
- Issue with host has been sorted out
- Figured out which company I will be going with to get a mailbox in the city I am conducting my project in. They will receive all the mail I might need them to receive (Google places business claim etc) and scan it and send it to me
- Got 1500 words more of content for an additional 3 pages on the site

PRESENT GOAL:
LAUNCH BY NEXT FRIDAY

Progress:
- Website is fully up and running
- Call tracking system has been setup and tested

Next steps:
- Need to add a bit more content
- A few other small things need to be done on the site before I launch
- Create Facebook and Google+ pages

Problem:
Realized that the virtual mailbox service I found has to be ordered for 3 months minimum, I have to find a more cost-effective option. If anyone knows a cheap way to find a mailing address to verify a business on Google, let me know.

Progress:
- Got a local address in the city I am targeting
- Created Facebook and Google+ pages
- Ordered logo

Next steps:
- Receive logo and brand everything (pages, site, etc ...)
- Verify business on google (waiting to receive the postcard)
- Rank

In order to move this project along I am setting a clear goal: have every non-SEO detail sorted by October 20th so I can move along. I am setting this goal so that I don't get off track or get distracted.

Note: I realize from the outside this seems to be very slow, I am highly inexperienced in this type of project and am figuring out as I go. Once I complete this journey I will make a clear outline of steps that must be taken to attain the goal, right now a lot of the time is being dedicated to figuring what I'm supposed to be doing but I do fell this moving forward and I know I will finish this.

Thanks to anyone who has been following this, I promise you WILL see some results out of this. I WILL meet my goal of $100/day.

Any new updates?

All the on site stuff has been sorted. Google business has been confirmed, logo was received from the fiverr seller and I have selected and ordered an SEO package from a seller here on the forum. Hopefully considering the low competition, I will be able to rank the site fairly easily with this package. Will update in about a month when I start seeing results from the SEO or I will update sooner if I see faster results. This is a really slow paced journey due to the fact that it requires SEO and that I've never done this before so sorry for anyone who is patiently waiting to hear of my results, so am I!

While the SEO is being done I will look for some freelance work locally. I have already contacted a woman who wants a simple ecommerce site done for $400 (I will most likely be charging her on a per hour basis so depending on the time it takes I might ask her to expand her budget). I am not 100% sure on this project yet but it was looking good when I talked to her on the phone. She is busy and the project might not start before 1 to 2 weeks if at all. She also wants me to work on an adword campaign to promote her site and I have already mentioned to her that given the low competition for her keyword in terms of SEO, it may be more viable to look into SEO and other online marketing options I could then resell SEO to her and if my site is ranked by then I can demonstrate with my example to convince her so it should be a piece of cake to get recurring payments from that single client from then on. I am also hoping to get referrals from her in order to get more freelance work. I will also update the status of that project on this thread so that I have something to post while waiting for results from my site.
