I recently stumbled over a short article regarding a upcoming app named Peeple. Basically, it's Yelp, but for humans. Yes, you heard me right - a human rating site! I first thought it was a hoax & rant against Review sites... but this app is not only real, but coming in November!

Here's the article on Washington Post with all the details.

here's another one on wired.

Anyone else think this will be THE Goldmine for us ORM chaps? I'm already preparing infographics and prewriting letters & emails for the release - this will be amazing! Imagine a world where you can give your ex a One Star review for everyone to read - Legen-dary!

If popular, it will be goldmine or a nightmare indeed.

Already been posted here, you missed the boat:-)

I don't think it will last long either, its too open to abuse - people will get trolled massively on it then everyone will get bored of it or there will be legal suits or something....

this app is ridiculous. wtf is wrong with humanity. however, it has high chance to succeed because there are so many dumb people on this planet.

Don't underestimate the power of general public stupidity.

lmfao this will be funny.

Social media will be the death of us all.

It will die a death, unless a marketing angle can be found fast for the masses to exploit.

Damn, didn't see the other post... After doing some research, it could well be a hoax (which would suck). Apart from the news-articles, there's no website and only the one twitter account (founder) which posts some random and weird stuff. Ever seen a new app launch without any kind of online presence? I doubt it...

But I love the idea & my driveway needs a new Porsche, right? So fingers crossed!

from washingtonpost:

"Positive ratings post immediately; negative ratings are queued in a private inbox for 48 hours in case of disputes. If you haven?t registered for the site, and thus can?t contest those negative ratings, your profile only shows positive reviews."

so you're good as long as you don't use the app...

Then i'll write three star ones (which should be positive) that clearly state you're my favorite pedo. This platform would be so much fun!

well, at least i'm your favorite :)

Can't see this app lasting long, its more like a trolls wet dream. There's also way too many white night. Feminists, overly religious nutcases and tree huggers who will do everything in their power to shut this thing down and give it tons of publicity.. Hmmm maybe this actually is a gold mine?

Dumber things have lasted for a couple of years. Google won't be quick to act, lawsuits and appeals can take years. The site will probably be around for a while IMO.

There are already a couple sites like this for niche industries. I'm familiar with one for bosses in which you can rate your boss. I'm sure there are others for specific industries and they're alive and well.

Exactly, there are a few sites out there - but one large success would pave the way for dozens of new ones! Success breeds success. Sadly, Peeple is back-pedalling like crazy atm... doubt it will have any impact.

According to many of the major news outlets, the app has been taken down already. Just do a search for Peeple app and you will see that Wired, YAhoo, HuffPost and others are reporting its demise.
