Hi, guys! I'm pretty new to IM and planning to buy a domain for my blog hosted by blogger.

I would like to save as much money as possible because I don't have a lot haha. I found a $0.99 coupon for Godaddy but I can't buy there because I don't have a CC and they don't accept PayPal payments for that specific deal. Regular price is about $9.99.

I found that 1and1 offers free .com on the first year ($0.18 ICANN of course) but the reviews are quite horrible. But hey, I just need a domain and not hosting. Maybe I'll do that in the future.

So.. Do you guys think it's okay to take advantage of 1and1's free domain offer and then transfer to Godaddy (or a different domain reg) before it expires? Kinda seems to me that transfers to quality registrars are cheaper than buying new domains.

ALSO

I already have an Adsense account approved via YouTube. Can I use the same account for blogger?

Thanks!

My friend if you are hesitating to spend 10$ for a domain, then this industry is not for you.You never know how long does it takes to make your first dollar. Most people here, or i know have struggled for 10 Months or more to earn their first dollar.

Yes,1&1 offers domain name for 0.99$,You can also transfer the domain to other registrars.

Also, you can use blogger to host your site.but Blogger is much difficult compared to wordpress,on wordpress you can just setup anything in seconds, whereas in blogger you need to know a little HTML and CSS to correctly set everything. Also,Blogger can delete your blog without any prior information

YouTube Adsense can only be used on wwwdotexampledotblogspotdotcom blogs, not on custom domains like wwwdotexampleDotcom

My Advice : First learn Blogging,Then start everything or you will end up with nothing but frustration.

For Blogging i would suggest you to learn from blogwithjagsdotcom you can learn pretty much everything for free.

Those sites hit you with the higher renewal fees because they know that people are too lazy to switch or cancel. So you end up paying more in the long run. Plus you generally don't get free privacy protection.

I would go with Name Silo or Name Cheap - with Name Cheap you do have to pay for privacy protection after the first year its like $3. With Name Silo it's always free which is nice.

If you really can't afford the $10 fee for the domain and have to use one of those other terrible registrars (looking at you GoDaddy, 1&1) then at least transfer it to Name Cheap or Silo and not to GoDaddy you would just be digging yourself into a deeper hole.

Thanks for the tips! Visited blogwithjags and I am currently on my second article. I just might delay investing on the blog for now and study the industry for a few months. Thank you!

Thank you! I might go for NameSilo. Lifetime free privacy sounds great.

1and1 not very cheap registrar (in renewal) - it's exactly, so as said early - you must see to future

Name Cheap is the best one, they offer one year privacy with the domain registration for free. Other registrars offer it as an extra. 10 will get you everything with them.

my experience show that Namesilo, Namecheap is better than 1and1 !

1and1 are not that bad....

$15 renewal cost is pretty bad. Some of the other registrars mentioned are more like $8-10. I know $5 for a single domain in a year may not be bad but if you start at a registrar you tend to stick with them. It can end up costing you thousands more to pay that extra fee each year.
