SEO newbie - How do I become an expert

I have been browsing the pages on this site for a while now and reading a lot of threads and journeys.
I have the intention of creating an affililiates page but when people start talking about SEO I don't have a clue.

The intention of my thread is 'how can I become a subject matter expert at SEO?'
From the little I know it has certainly caught my attention.

Are there courses that i can do?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I would really like to take thsi seriously and learn this and maybe even make a career out of it.

No idea where to start.

Best advice I can give you is, read the forums and take action on whatever you learn. There is to many good threads to point you to a specific one.

Thanks for the replies so far - When you read the threads there are so many tools people mention I really don't know where to start.
Would you guys say the best way is just jumping in and learning it or is it worth doing a structured course on-line if any are available and if anyone can recommend any?

Don't waste your money on SEO courses. If you read this forum religiously.... you are well on your way.

Simple. Go to the Search Bar and type "Beginner SEO" or go to the Black Hat SEO section and sort posts by views/ replies then read. You will find what you need to know.

Do all the research and learning you initially can and then you'll have to experiment. For those who haven't had the fortune of learning the scientific method:

• Ask a Question
• Do Background Research
• Construct a Hypothesis
• Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment
• Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion
• Share your results (edit: but not all of them)

If it sounds simple, it's because it is.

What i suggest is to keep testing just don't read and read. testing will get you results

there is some threads here for how to start, and how to rank
it's simple, search for it, and read 3 - 10 posts
you will found many terms with no/confused meaning for you
search about it also here and read at least 1 article about it
this module may take about a week of hard study, but it's a great way to learn
