i have seen on few sites like microworkers, crowdsource etc. People are paying for

"to search their keyword on google and click on one of the results which they have described"

is it a part of SEO? or to increase CPC?

Well for this to work you need like 50-100 ppl who will be doing that, over time if the nich is not so competitive it will come up to the search engines

yes they pay like 0.02$ per click and they are getting 1000+ clicks, so , does that mean, if your competition is low, by doing this, you can get to page 1?

Well, its not the best practice to do, over time its effectiveness has gone down and people are still there who feels its working and in some cases it may be working also. but if you are able to find a low competitive niche then better create such a content which can attract people's attention and it can rank by itself.

I think in theory it could work to maintain your position, seeing as Google obviously tracks click-throughs and so on for the results that it displays, however I think as said above you would need tens of thousands of clicks to make it work...

That's an absurdly moronic statement.
You cannot pin a constant number to the degree of success using this method. It all depends on the amount of searches the keyword gets.
Say you're optimizing for a 4k searches/month keyword - obviously you wouldn't need "tens of thousands" in this case.

I was doing Microworkers jobs and I remeber one job was to Google a dog food keyword with 500000 results and you had to click on 1 of the first 4 results and these websites were official websites of brand or Amazon. This dog food brand is owned by Nestle and they were already ranked first. Is Nestle really doing blackhat SEO or what?

It was for beneful. And yeah, pretty much all terms that they opened a job for on microworkers is showing on autosuggest. The comapny paid someone to remove "beneful + Lawsuit" from the suggest. You can check now, It's not showing Lawsuit.

Been working on this autosuggest field for quite some time. Not sure if anyone here noticed that my name would autocomplete after payday loans on bing . Haha . Meh, I'm talking too much :worm3:
