If you're looking to make internet marketing or SEO your full-time job, don't shoot for a ridiculous goal of $10,000 a month right off. Make your immediate goal to replace your current income. If you currently make $10.00 hr at your 9-5 job then you want to try and make $1,600 a month with IM. Once you hit that goal you can quit your 9-5 job if you choose. You will now have more "free time" to go after your next goal. Shoot for something like $3200 a month and so on.

Be realistic with your goals and they will be a lot easier.

Why would you want to quit your 9-5 with $1,600 a month? To live in poverty? Bust your ass and do both. Methods die all too often so there is no reason to think that stream will last.

Yeah, I understand that. I just don't think it is wise to advise people to even consider quitting any job unless they had consistent income like that for 6+ months.

Goal setting is a good move but to realistically hit $10,000 a month you would need to be creative. Look at the potato seller.. Can't believe that someone is making $10,000 a month just for selling potato with customized writing. Therefore it is important to be creative and set a realistic but slightly higher income goal. As the saying goes, if you cannot hit the moon, at least you can hit the stars. Think Brian Tracy has some good books on Goal setting. Try to read it.

Well at the very least you have tried. If you take the average lifespan of a person to be 80 years and half of the time you are sleeping, you would have only 40 years of time that you were awake. Minus the 20 years when you were a baby and teenager, you would have only 20 years of productive life left. Don't be afraid of failure while setting income goal but fine tune through your experience in failure and improvise it. But while making income goal, be realistic and make sure your day job has you covered on your daily expenses need.

You need to diversify your income first before you quit in the case that some of your methods crash. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

This is a nice advice. When you set high goals, when you don't fulfil them, it comes with a huge disappointment!
