Why is my bounce rate so high? I have decent web design and my content is relatively high quality. Although a lot of my traffic comes from tumblr. Could this be it?

Your bounce rate can be so high from driving untargeted traffic to your website.

Are you interlinking? Good content that interlinks to good content / click bait will drive it down.

Say for instance I am writing about poker, couple of sentences in I will drop a 'see a picture of my cock' link.

I have a bounce rate of about 79% I feel that is also not good and my traffic usually comes from search engine, reddit and direct (dont know why)

Your traffic probably is international to start? You may be getting traffic that is from overseas where user has poor English skiils and moreover, with this sort of bouce rate, the content you offers does not fit well with the traffic driven to it. Look over what you use for linking to get traffic to site, is it totally relevant to where users land on your site?

I've seen his site and tumblr. your traffic is probably bots. It seems like you have almost no activity on your tumblr (no notes on your post linking to your site), and I've seen an article with more than 80 bot comment.

Try and develop your site with real traffic and real followers and it will decrease the bounce rate.

Is your website mobile friendly? Most tumblr users are using mobile devices. This was a problem I had for months, the day I added a mobile friendly plugin on wordpress my bounce rate started to get cut in half.

just do a search for mobile friendly on wordpress

Thats not good.Start get traffic organic which is more important buddy.

Maybe visitors don't find useful information from your site . you should focus on niche market. You will have low bounce rate .

I lean in with SnoopyDrew on this. If you are redirecting mobile traffic for example this can effect your SEO with Big G, but also your bounce rate can be significantly skewed. If it turns out to be bots, you can probably get one of the bounce plugins or standalone php apps to artificially lower your bounce rate.

Generally speaking, if its not bot traffic and/or a hit for redirection schemes - content tends to be poor or not fulfilling the visitors expectations. As tavaX suggested though - there is a good chance there is no real traffic interacting with your site so by considering the bounce rate you are basically asking the question "why do bots that mostly click links and leave a site keep leaving my site?" Better get some real traffic, and remove any clunky or questionable redirect scripts/functions.

You should check your analytics to see:
1. if trafic is from mobile devices or not
2. if they incoming traffic keywords match your SEO
tant will give you an idea what need changing
