If I have a list scraped of around 1,000 email addresses and I want to advertise SEO services, what would be the best way to go about that? Should I use a bulk email program like Atomic Mail Sender? Should I pay someone to do it for me? I know Mailchimp won't work because these need to be people who have subscribed onto the list. Regarding that - I understand the CAN SPAM laws, but if I put a disclaimer that this will be the only email they will ever receive, is it alright? Or should I still use an unsubscribe button/system?

I know it's not easy as there are certain things to do to avoid the emails going in the spam box, and you have to do something with proxy IPs so the mails aren't all sent from the same IP address. Any advice on what I should do?

There are many different ways to do it. I would split the list between 3-4 different hosted mail setups. That way you can gauge delivery and clean the list
of invalids, etc. Plus this way most places will allow you to do it for free. Once you clean the list you can move it all to one hosted setup to make things
easier, or keep it split.

mqs1000,

For you to even be eligible to send them ANY email whatsoever, the CAN-SPAM states that every email must be subscribed (opt-in) before you can even attempt to send them 1 email.

This means, if you scraped those emails they are definitely NOT opt-in by the owner of the email and could land you in potential legal and or monetary damages. Last time I checked the fines were up to 500$ per unsolicited email sent. This is of course, only if you care. If you don't, you will do what you will do and send the emails anyways at your own risk (Allot just do it anyways and wish for the best). Since your not doing huge volume, I would say your fine though and I would put an unsubscribe button along with whatever else you might think would help reduce any possible complaints. Hope this clears up a few things for you bro. Take care.

Chances are no one is going to report you. I'm assuming you have your emails in one place, like a CSV file or spreadsheet. Just split them up into a few segments and paste them into the BCC on a few different hosting accounts.

Thanks for all the answers - they contained good tips. But I'm still wondering what I should use to send out all the emails. How does that work exactly? Should I just buy Atomic Mail Sender and figure it out myself? What do you mean by different hosts? Any articles or how to guides I can read explaining all of this?

Atomic Email Sender is just a tool. You need diferent SMTP servers (on diferent host) to use with Atomic Email Sender or any other software you are going to choose for sending emails.

False, emails do NOT need an opt-in, but they do need an opt-out. I did a research paper on this topic in college. CAN-SPAM does prohibit email harvesting (in certain cases), however there are other ways to obtain / create email lists that are not illegal and CAN-SPAM compliant.

I understand. Is this an article or a how to guide explaining this or a service that does this? I'm willing to pay money for help.

No I do not offer such services but you will definetly find people in forum marketplace that can help you

You can have a try Bulk EDM Chef , it's send mass emails without input smtp account.

Honestly, at a size of just ~1,000 email addresses comprising your entire list, you are flying well below the radar of anybody or anything targeting "spammers" and you will do just fine to fire up Outlook (or whatever) and send out your message to say about 50-100 addresses at a time, each spaced, eh, give it about an hour apart. Done.

Your worst case scenario (especially if you are just planning on doing one run, maybe two, of this starting out) is that somebody will reply complaining and asking to be removed from your list. Your list isn't that big, so it should be no problem to just comply and do it.

Even if you ran through the list twice, you are only talking about somewhere around ~2,000 pieces of e-mail total. As far as an ISP is concerned, that is not even worth the time it would take to have one of their network admins write you a sternly worded e-mail.

The people they are going to pursue aggressively are the ones that are sending 100,000+ (MINIMUM) pieces of unsolicited bulk e-mail daily. I wouldn't even fret about having to maintain meticulous opt-in records for a list of that size; if someone raises the question just feign ignorance and kindly apologize. Of course, it is just general good practice to ONLY e-mail on addresses which you KNOW have opted in (you'll generally experience poor performance in terms of conversion rates if you don't anyway, so it is just not worth it, believe me).

Two tips though: (1) doing 50-100 at a time, spaced like at least an hour apart (and maybe even over the course of two or more days if you feel like being extra careful) is just common sense to avoid any trouble you might get as far as rate-limiting implemented by your ISP or e-mail provider goes and (2) BE ABSOLUTELY SURE that everyone you are e-mailing are addressed using the "BCC:" field; DO NOT USE the "TO:" or "CC:" fields for this (if it is necessary for some reason, you can include your own e-mail address as the single address in the "TO:" field, but that should be ALL)!

You'll be fine. Good luck.

I think you can use email services like mail chimp. because those guys provides unsubscribe button at the bottom of the email that keeps you on the safe side !

Cheers !

I am assuming you own these database that you are talking about OP as it is illegal on BHW to talk about spamming.

1) Get a server based in Romania, Russia (the best whenever they have disagreement with USA), China, Poland, Bulgaria.

2) Setup SMTP on this server. Purpose of this server is to clean your data. Depending upon the volume of data that require cleaning, you may or may not need a dedicated server. You just need a single IP for this as the purpose is to identify hard bounces. Setup a different domain for data cleaning purposes.

3) Send a simple message saying that you have are replying to the database recipient. Remember no inclusion of links here. And do provide a subscribe option.

4) Wait for 5 - 7 days for the sending to complete and bounce report processed. Depending upon your server, this period of time can be lengthen or shorten.

5) Extract the emails that are not hard bounce (if you want to be safe, remove the soft bounces as well).

6) You would have a cleaned list on hand at this stage

7) Next set up a dedicated server using a singe domain.

8) Then install a mailing software like interspire on to this dedicated server

9) Go to your domain DNS and setup multiple sub domains. Example, aa1.abc.com, aa2.abc.com.

10) Use these sub domain to purchase VPS or Gmail business.Setup these DNS to point to their servers. You would have multiple SMTP at this stage. You need at least 30 SMTP if your database is more than 50k emails and you want to complete the sending within two days.

11) Next purchase around 5k yahoo, 1k gmail, 1k AOL, 5k hotmail/ outlook accounts.

12) Do a trial sending without link to these dummies account to warm up your IP addresses.

13) Engage a VA to manually log in to these email accounts to whitelist your your email. Remember to get your VA to switch IP for each account. Ideally whitelisting using the same country IP address of your database. Example, USA database, you should use USA IP. It does not matter if you use server IP or residential IP at this stage since anti spam system do not take this into account.

14) You only need to do this once to build up your sender IP address but you have to do for all the SMTP that you own.

15) Setup interspire stage: Send hourly limit for each SMTP to be around 300 emails max. Do not try to send beyond 300 emails. The reason is because if there are still hard bounces at this stage it will damage your sender IP address reputation. You need a few months to increase this limit as ISP get to know your IP address and domain. Next setup bounce processing and feedback loop so that your system will automatically remove spam complaints.

16) Remember to check your domain for blacklist using mxtoolbox about 4 days after you send a campaign as it take sometime for ISP to blacklist your domain/ sender IP. If there are any blacklist, you need to request for removal or simply add more SMTP through increasing your sub domain. Then remove this blacklisted IP and don't use them.

17) In all your emails campaign, always remember to include your unsubcribe option.

18) Nurture your IP addresses and the more you send with less complaints and bounces, the better reputation the IP will attain thus increasing your ability to send larger amount of emails volume.

Remarks: I usually use a sending Company service with http://www.globalsuccesssoftware.vn since it is so cheap as I can't be bother with the above steps as it take too much of my time to manage the SMTP and maintain IP address reputation. But remember, you must clean your data even if they are double opt in as bounces can seriously damage your inbox rate. Hope the above information and steps will be helpful to you. Remember don't spam and use emailing for legitimate purposes.

many many users have isp assigned mailboxes or other. does yahoo, gmail, outlook reputation affects other smaller email providers? they kinda vouch for smtp ip to spamhaus or some similar global db?

Sender reputation matters and it can only be build through time and your pattern of sending. That is why it is important to prune your database frequently. Remove those that do not open your email, bounces and those who complain about your email. This way, you will ensure that you get a reputable sender IP for good inbox rate.

To answer your question, by sending to Yahoo, gmail and outlook, the purpose is to demonstrate that you are not spamming. And having VA to click with multiple IP address to whitelist your sender domain and IP, it tells anti spam system that your sender is a legitimate sender and you are not a spammer. It certainly helps to improve your sender reputation. However, if you don't clean your database, your sender reputation will still suffer badly.

I would get a sendgrid account on a general domain and once i got the server details, i will send the bulk mail, if the complaints are less, you can send them often. Sendgrid has good reputation, so every email will go directly to their inbox.

IP rotation + interspire done best with me.

Just check my solutions :) ( maxishsolution in google)

First let me be upfront, there is nothing wrong with your approach. The issue here lies with not cleaning the database of bounces or emails that simply do not response to your offer. It does not matter if you are using sendgrid or your own server, the biggest issue is that people don't spend time building their sender IP reputation and do active list cleaning.

Sendgrid or SMTP don't provide magical solution to the inbox if the database is filled with people who complains about receiving spam, bounces or even can't be bothered with replying to you. In fact, you can seriously damage their sender IP reputation.

Using your approach to send 1million emails without cleaning, it will be very expensive. Don't you agree?
