If you're at the point where having to provide a tax ID becomes an issue, you're not giving paypal/eBay any more information by having a business account than a personal account.

I have an old employer id number but if I use a fake name (ex. John), it won't be the same as the name that registered for the old Employer ID (ex. Martin). Do I need a new employer id?

You've never been asked for any other information that using a fake name would cause you problems? Ex. SSN?

Also, What about on ebay? Merchant or personal account?

Technically, if you have a sole prop. EID, they can do research to see who holds that EID, but chances of someone at eBay taking the time and effort to dig into that stuff unless you pull very shady stuff isn't that high. Amazon has been known to go to those lengths, but not eBay. The absolute safest way to go is to have a multi-member LLC or Corp where the bank account isn't in your name.

and eBay will also encourage you to open a business acct. some time down the road...

depends on what you sell. If you sell low risk items you can pretty much list to the limit right away without that much risk.

yes, no, my experience is that personal gets faster limit increases up to a certain point but you need business to get $50K+ limits

1. Anything non-branded and non-electronic is fairly safe.

2. The amazon drop ship thing is okay to start with, but the way to go in the long term, if you're really serious about doing this for real money, is to pick a niche, be one of the bigger players in that niche, and carry your own inventory or sell an item you can get produced for you at quick notice. The problem with the pure drop ship model is that you don't have much control if your drop shipper drops the ball or if Amazon and/or eBay changes their policy to make it worse for you, as well as you're competing against ten thousand other people who are trying to do the exact same thing as you; so it quickly becomes a battle to see who can survive with the lowest profit margin.

3. My experience is that personal actually gets you faster to around $10-15K limit but it's hard to get raises after that, and at that point if you sell enough that limits become an issue, they make to change to business anyways.

I am using PayPal as my main option to sell my products through woocommerce on my website, but PayPal ended up limited my account because they didn't like what I saw selling.

Now I have read somewhere that the reason they found out about stuff like this is because they have bots crawling around checking your stuff... I also read that you can somehow redirect the payment to a different url to avoid having those bots detect your original site content.... does anyone know how I would do this and keep my current automated system through woocommerce?

Since the account limit was put on, I've been manually issuing PayPal invoices to customer's email addresses, but they get so confused about it so an automated approach would be so much better.

Sounds like they are blocking you from sending the payment or asking you for verification before you send. You are moving money to quick and drawing suspicion around the account. Either let it sit for awhile and then send or just withdraw that money straight into your bank.

According to EBay rules it is not permitted to sell anything that cannot be shipped. You may be able to stay under the radar with stealth but strictly speaking it is not permitted..

First and foremost you need to make sure your account never gets scrutinized by human eyes as they will instantly recognize you are selling things against their TOS.
This includes making sure each customer is satisfied and that you over deliver to your clients (otherwise they will open up disputes against you and give you negative feedback which will likely get your account reviewed and banned).
However, honestly, it is very difficult to guarantee ebay will not find out what your doing. You can only minimize the risk. EBay has bots that search all listings for certain restricted keywords and they can detect if you sell something against their TOS. They may not find out right away but will find out sooner or later.

Finally, I'd recommend that the first (few) listings should be real products bec the first listing is manually reviewed by a human and in general the newer the account the higher the risk.

90 days after first sale + a few dozen transaction; although if buyer complaint spikes up in any 30 day period the paypal can slap on the hold again. It also depends on what you sell; the longest I have ever had a 21 day hold on a stealth acct was almost a year.

That is honestly so dumb, I cant do a drop shipping business like that that at all. I probably have a better chance setting up my own website for this one product and trying to promote it WITH ebay. ( telling all my customers to buy from my site after they bought ) and ill just refund them lol

It's not dumb. It cut down fraud by new sellers by 90%.

I cant do a drop shipping business like that that at all.

well, eBay doesn't really want you to run a drop shipping business on their site.

I probably have a better chance setting up my own website for this one product and trying to promote it WITH ebay.

I tried that and it's not worth it. For most products you'll make way more money in the long run with working on your eBay stuff than your own site stuff because only a small % of buyers will bother going off site.
