Checking Keyword Competition?

Whats a free way to check keyword competition, I got longtail pro trial but you can only see the keyword competition if you get the platinum version which I think is a little ridiculous.

I am very new to keyword research by the way, sorry if this sounds noobish.

Ahrefs trial accounts. Just use a ton of gmail accounts. Personally I think it is worth to pay people for their awesome services, especially since I am going to make money after using it, but each to their own.

I thought that free trial version of LTP includes competitor analysis on top 10 google results. This must be enough to analyze your competitors.

You can do it the manual way. Take your KW, plug it into google. Have the moz toolbar on your browser to see the comp and backlinks of the top ten to twenty.

I check past top ten. Not many people do. But if you 'think' a KW is medium comp and discover tn - twenty are authority websites with some links, it will be harder to break into the top ten than you imagine.

Plus, if you think a KW is 'kinda easy' but number 10 - 20 has no optimzation for the KW, it is easier to rank than the top ten lets on.

Personally I just love doing it the classic manual way in order to get highly accurate results which I can test a variety of different ways.

With that being said, Long Tail Pro is also definitely a great solution too.

Yeah I think I am just going to buy longtail pro platinum, I guess it will be worth it in the long run but this project is costing me a pretty penny right now. Hope It makes me some good money in the months to come.
