Website Speed Too Slow

I have a question regarding website speed.

My site was taking incredibly long time to load, so I ordered a gig on Fiverr - moved it to Linode hosting with 4GB RAM & 4 CPU - and there's only 1 site on that droplet, not 10, it works a little faster, but still takes a while.

My site built on WordPress using a template theme.
My site has 6 banner ads that displayed through DFP.
I have one underpost ad block (6 small squares) and side ads (3 small rectangles) - from the same company.
Another ad I have is a small video pop up in the bottom right corner.
There's about 20k-30k unique visitors per day.

I was told that the ads make my site to load longer, as they are being loaded from remote server, but if so - why other sites with even more ads work faster?

Is there a way to make website still appear and be visible while ads loads - or is there other way?

Please share your experience.

There are too many things that could do to speed up your website. Ads is the last on the list.
1st is optimise your vps, set up apache 2.4 properly or ditch it and use ngninx, use php 5.6 and php-fpm & varnish as caching. Optimize mysql also.
2nd optimize WP use minify , enable gzip, sprites & expire headers in order to have less connections (use gtmetrix or similar service to check)
3rd Optimize queries on WordPress , disable plugins that you dont use, use a plugin for caching especially with varnish it will make miracles.

P.m me your website.
