anyway to retrieve a domain?

my niece had a fairly popular photography website, she was just starting out, and forgot to renew it and of course someone grabbed it. is there anyway to get the domain back? thanks

No, if it expired and someone else already purchased it its gone.

Only way you can get it back is if you contact the owner and see if they are nice enough to give it back or maybe they will let you purchase it back.

That's difficult, It's probably dropcatcher who knows what he is doing... You can check the whois for contact info and ask... Maybe you can buy it back..

If you are brave, you can try to copywrite or trademark the domain name and then contact the owner and show them they are in violation of the copywrite. who knows might work.

Better will be first politely request the new owner, most probably he will revert it back as dominers also understand the value of domain could be much more for original owner. don't try to create any dispute or arrogance otherwise there could be a problem. i have seen such cases.

Sorry to hear that. Unless the company your niece has the domain with has a service that it can attempt to negotiate the price of the taken domain, your only option, assuming they did not privatize the registrant information of the domain, would be to try and contact them your self.
