I am trying out some offline stuff. I created my portfolio and flyers and spread them around my area. My portfolio is mainly about graphic designs (logos, tees and websites). Right now a guy called me and told me his story about how a girl ripped him off $1k. He wanted his website up and someone to do SEO each month to have his site on first page of Google for certain keywords. He says he is using Weebly and about to be done with his website. He now needs someone to work on SEO each month. Hasn't said anything about price but I am sure it will be more than $500 here once I can tell him the merits of SEO.

It was instant and I could only say a friend of mine does perfect SEO. "I can talk to him and call you in 2-3 hours." He said ok. He then kept whining for a while and thanked me for listening to his crap sincerely. I really don't know what to do now. Like said, I am not good at SEO. Maybe I can arbitrage from somewhere else? What would you guys suggest me?

I don't think he even knows about keywords. The only thing he told me is that it was his own personal portfolio website.

It really depends on your ethic & the contract you'll make him signs with you.
You could of course (and that's the best solution) arbitrage some SEO from the marketplace. Find a reputable seller (wouldn't take you more than 1 hour to go through it) and just do the job.
Now you have to meet his expectation : Be on page 1 for his keywords ... that will be hard but achievable. Just make sure you & he understand what does it implies in term of amount of work to reach this goal.
Keep having a nice relationship with him, but don't waste your time listening to his problems. Next thing you know, you listen to him 1 hour, he ask you for a delay for his payment and you're fucked because you said yes without even listening.

Stay away from any buyer who starts off their request with "I want to be first on Google." These are always delusional customers.

"I want to improve my rank"
"I'd like more visibility"
"I'd like more customers and leads"
"I'd like to know what I can do to improve my SEO"

^ These are reasonable requests.

Why you don't start with PPC? $500 per month could be a great start. SEO requieres more time, effort, money, and does not comes with guarantee.

Thank you for your advices guys. I am meeting this guy today. I will maybe resell him sdseogurus' "Get #1 rank" package. I believe that will help. I need to see his website and everything at first though. I will update how it goes.
