There are many pinterest likes, followers and shares . You will have good traffic from pinterest.

best way to promote your website or product is pinning in group boards which have at least 10K followers but check also the number of contributros..they should be very low

If you're end goal is to get sales or leads then I would try to apply for promoted pins. However, you won't be able to use their ad platform unless you're from the US.

CPC's are relatively cheap but you'll get an insane ROI.

Is there any chance of getting banned on pininterest for promotion? Also, how does the traffic from pininterest compare with facebook, twitter, instagram, etc?

in my opinion , you should build your own account (or accounts if you want better results ) just try to make followers , not traffic . when you make enough followers (at least 50k) you will get massive traffic to almost any post you share . of course don't forget the rule : quality over quantity . good luck
