I'm working on a few new sites - and I just like to be different. I've blurred the content.. just wondering what you fine folks think of the colors.

obviously this one will be for the double x chromosome bunch

the other three are not gender specific

Colors are colors. There's no way to make recommendations other than to say I like cyan, brown, green, pink, black, and white. I guess those colors are as good as any of the other colors in the visible spectrum of light. Perhaps you should iron out your question to be more specific, or express the intended purposes of these sites. Just looks like an ecommerce site, and a few blogs. None of which look particularly professional/modern. Therefore, I don't think the colors are relevant at all as real visitors will be closing the page regardless of the colors due to it's 1999ish look/feel.

ok..
I always see references to things looking "professonal and modern" and am not sure what that means actually.
Is it big wide open white wasted screen-estate with black text and a few stock images? Maybe one red or yellow bar on it somewhere and a CTA button? Those are the sites I close the fastest.

Since almost half of your visitors will be from tablet and smartphones, try picking a color scheme that allows readable content during the day and easy on the eyes at night.

That's my 2 cents.

  • The pink one looks okay.
  • The blue site's colours make it look like it was designed in 1998.
  • The green site's colour scheme is annoying.
  • The last site's colour scheme... just no.

I checked them on my tablet and had the brat check them on the smartphone.. they're mobile friendly and legible.

ok.. will go tweak the light blue one

the green one is going to be a Halloween / special effects site.. hence the green slime/snot color

just out of curiosity, what colors do you personally gravitate toward?

They all remind me of late 90s / early 00s.

Look up color theory and try applying that to your designs.

Another trick is instead of using a bunch of different colors, limit yourself to three or four. Say my primary color is green, my other colors could be white, grey, and black. Try to keep the background colors either white or light grey.

Professional and modern design is minimal + simple (and in most cases flat). Also, don't be afraid to steal color schemes. If you need some ideas checkout Dribbble or Behance.

Another thing that might help making coherrent color-schemes is Paletton (you need to google it since I can't link)

The green site looks like more like an army site than a Halloween site.

I usually use some variant of blue, grey, and white on my sites.

Edit: something similar to this, although not quite those exact colours.

thanks all :)

I have big vision problems.. don't see hues of the same color as very different - hence my avoidance of monochrome and grey schemes. Stylish (the addon) is my favorite tool.. I color everything - I guess in turn of the century colors.. thought I do gravitate to the 60s/70's vibe also.

The pink is good. The blue site needs more white IMO. For the Halloween site maybe try something like the BHW color scheme but with black, white, and orange (instead of yellow).

The green and brown... Just no

guess that doesn't translate to the web well.

I'm sure it looks great on a lovely lady :) especially with a similar eye color.

But no, not the web
