I have a personal paypal account and there is no way to prevent the buyer from seeing my name when I send invoices. I have a long Russian name which freaks out buyers so I use alternate names when marketing my services via email. The only way around this seems to be opening up a paypal business account. I live in the UK. Am I able to open up a business account without having a registered business? Does anyone in the UK have any experience of this. Many thanks.

Can't speak for the UK, but in the US you can open a PayPal business account with a business that has not been incorporated yet. You can use your EIN or SSN to set it up.

Try upgrading your account to business and choose self-employed if that option is still available. I remember I've done something like that in the past and it worked just fine without providing any documents

Why not consider using an alternative to Paypal?

Paypal is popular and well known. Anything else will look scammy to my clients, especially since I cold approach them by email.

Thanks I was planning on just making up a business name if they asked. If there's a self employed option I'll do that. Was a bit apprehensive but f it, never know until you try.

Wire payment is not an option for you?

Wire payment is even worse in terms of my name showing. International transfers require my full name, address etc
