Zero Unique Content But Top Ranking

I am talking about the quote site brainy quotes. It rank number one in almost every keyword. There is no unique content. All the quotes are available all over the Internet.


Yet Google doesn't penalize it. What I found out is that it has massive backlinks.


Can someone enlighten me.

Press release sites recently got devalued to the point that most are considered a spam source. Links from them will not help rank.

Any quality site can have duplicate content and rank without difficulty. The "duplicate content" penalty everyone fears does not exist. If it did, there would be only one copy of everything on the Internet. The real threat of duplicate content is when the same content appears on the same site in more than one place, like /tags/author/categories in WordPress.

When people get hit with a "duplicate content penalty" for having a lot of duplicate content, it is really a low quality site penalty. If all your site has on it is duplicate content, it is a low quality site.

A high quality site with some duplicate content on it will have no problem.

If you still do not believe me, search for this:

"When you visit our dental office, your smile is our top priority. Our entire team is dedicated to providing you with the personalized, quality dental care that you deserve."

You can get in trouble with the law for using copyrighted content.

You can copy anything on the internet, and it will not incur a duplicate content penalty. That is not what duplicate content is.

You might get a poor quality penalty, but not a duplicate content penalty.
It will not get you banned, and it is not a waste of time. In fact if use it and give credit to the original site, it actually helps.

There are smarter things to do, (as steel says), but it is far from a no-no.

And it is not duplicate content. If it were, and Google banned such things, there would only be one copy of anything in the Internet.

News sites would be out of business.

This dumb question was asked about this site before, and like I said, it's over a decade old (2001). These sites were around in the beginning. Now the muppets come around and herp derp to how they are doing the same thing and it isn't working. Yeah, cuz you and the other million herp derpers think that you can suddenly rank by doing the same thing that's been done a billion times over.

I'm talking about there being 10 spots on the first page and muppets complaining that a site that's been around since 2001 is ranking ahead of some muppet's attempt at doing the same thing for the millionth time and not ranking above the other 1000s of other sites that have already done it.

As "cynical" as that sounds, I'm going to have to agree with archon10 on that one. Usually, whenever someone starts doing enough research to notice that a site is ranking for almost every keyword in a niche, that means that they are either interested in creating a site in the same niche and wanted to know the "secret to ranking like that site", or it was something they happened to notice and wanted more information on (and if the method is easy, they would try to rank for the same keywords).
