Question: Recommended Location of Server?

Hello everybody, I'm fairly new to BHW and I therefore hope I've posted this in the right sub-forum.

I'm currently in the process of setting up hosting on Servinio, and I've got the option to either have my server hosted on Romania, USA, Netherlands, UK, France and Germany.

Are any of these better than others, or is it just a matter of preference?

Always go for a server near your target audience and, if your site is time sensitive (like FOREX trading) near a major transit point (think LINX in London, DE-CIX in Germany etc).

If you are targeting world wide then go for a centre point. If you are looking at Asian visitors I would suggest the west coast US.

Better go for hosting in the server which is nearer to your location because if you host in the server located in your country the local websites will be loaded since it will take less time to load its content. But it may or may not be the same in the other case. If the customers who access your website are local one, then the website will be loaded in a less interval of time. So keep notice about the traffic rate and the country in which more number of users are presented.

The location of your VPS wouldn't matter for your SEO campaigns at all.
First, the web allows you to be anywhere while writing for any country.
And you could also consider using proxies if some websites are filtering the IPs by their location.

However, as mentionned just above, the location of your VPS should be as close as possible from your own location or with a ping > 120-150 ms ideally, so you have a pleasant experience while browsing your VPS.
Of course, some world location, would rather benefit from an US / European one as far as the network on that part of the world would serve SEO purposes better. (1 / 10 GBPS VPS are more rare to find in some part of the world)

Since i last checked, server location is a ranking factor for google. I dont know if they have changed reviewed this factor yet. Please correct me if i am wrong.

The server located in the country of your target audience will be favored.

@togerr, i misread OP post, i thought it was about windows VPS location when running tools.
Hosting location is indeed a tiny factor which you can override in webmaster tools, but by default it remains better to have the server in the country you are targetting.

You ask your hosting provider to sent the ping results from the servers at each location which you have mentioned above. And compare those timing, choose the one which has less response time.
