What would happens if hosting where you host your websites and domain names goes down for good ? I believe you would loose all hosted files, but what about domain names?

If you are hosting you should be doing backups - that way if this happens you can move your files elsewhere.

As for domain names, if you purchase that from the host you should be able to get them back but it won't be easy and you will need proof (purchase emails etc).

The biggest thing is find a decent host and don't just base that decision on price. The price you pay depends on the importance of your sites. Overall, backups, backups, backups - don't depend on anyone but yourself for backups and make sure they are kept away from your current host!

When we say the hosting is done, it just means the server isnt available at the moment. Basically can we call it like the server is switched OFF for random reasons, outage, hardware errors etc. When the hosting is back up, your files would be preserved and everything will be back up and running.

Even if there is a failure to the storage, good hosts keeps regular backups and they have seperate racks just for backups, so your data should still be safe.

Domains and hostings are not tied together. They are just linked or pointed to the hosting. So what happens to the files have no relation with the domain.

Or if you mean a hostfirm is shutdown, then your files are gone :) Domain names stays with you, at your registrar.

You will learn valuable lesson that you should backup your site regularly.

It is always good to register your domain elsewhere than where you buy hosting from - e.g. you can buy hosting from HostGator and domain from NameCheap. This way when your hosting goes down, you can move the files of your website to a new hosting account and just switch the DNS nameservers of your domain to the new hosting.

Yeah, keep regular backups. My windows vps expired (was suspended) a day before than I expected and I lost tens of gigs of scrapes and data. Not worth much, but I'm not gonna pay for a month just to retrieve some gigs of scrapes, settings and gsa ser projects.
Money making websites should be backed up daily I think.

No the domain name will not be affected if the host is down, we can get it back. To get back your domain name you should have legal ownership with a proper whoois record and valid email-id associated with it. But the website content will be lost if we don't take backup's at regular intervals. To avoid your host not going down you need a quality hosting. If you want a quality hosting you have to pay more, since if the hosting is cheap then you have to compromise with the quality of the service. Hence I suggest you to always look for the reliable hosting provider and make sure that company provide 24X7 support with the multiple ways to contact the support (i.e live chat, email etc).
