Best Software?

Can someone recommend the best software to use for a membership site? I'm not looking to use wordpress. I have a custom payment integration that my developers can handle but wanted to see if there's a system that handles content membership sign ups.

E.g. user signs up for $20/mo, automatically get access/denied based on if payment is current.

Check out Joomla and some custom scripts . Maybe they will do the job. Joomla is also powerful.

Right now Smart Member is very HOT but is very expensive - so if anyone is interested in doing a group buy please let know - the software is Brilliant
