I given this a go and started with a long tail keyword (less thank 25k results on G), built a linkwheel with 8 properties linked to my money page
I SB everything in the wheel at digg, mixx, folkd & delicious and pinged all in the wheel. I bought a unique article for my money page and rewrote it 8 times for the linkwheel. Now am I doing anything wrong as I cant seem to rank? my linkwheel consists of blogger, wordpress, hubpages, weebly, vox, blogsome, livejournal, yolamy and money page is on squidoo.
Any help would be great...

Ah, this was the first thing I ever tried as-well. It's not working because:

1) Those sites are mainly nofollow
2) You need a lot more than 8 backlinks to rank even for a rare keyword. Think more in the region of 800, or even 8000. All ******** as-well. It's not as massive a task as it sounds. Get cracking!

Depends on the timeframe as well
Don't expect to rank instantly, takes times

think 3-12 months, google has it's own timeframe

ok, but I thought the whole point of using web 2.0 was to rank quickly, days rather than months.
I did check the if they were nofollow before I began, all are ok apart from my huppages blog, needs a score of 60+ to get ******** (at 55 at moment)

Try to use other web 2.0 and bookmarking websites. Try to also use ezinesarticles. And as said earlier work on the backlinks aspect of the wheel. I f done right you should see results after a month or so I think.

so, when posting my article to ezinearticles do I put my link as the anchor keyword

Ezine is all well and good but its a lot of effort for one link. If you want backlinks quickly and easily, have a look at this post:

Code:

I just netted 10 PR5 .edu sites and got a ******** from nasa.gov in the past hour using this method.

I wouldnt make main money page on squidoo but on own domain. Then you can run around catalogues and add too.

Spam the spokes of the wheel :)

With the link wheel, you really have to look at more than just the number of competing sites. You have to look at what kind of pages are actually ranking on the first page of google for the long tail without quotes....

Do you see:

Squidoo
Blogger
EZA
Article Alley
HubPages
Wordpress
Other Web2.0?

If you don't, the traditional link wheel isn't going to work out very well for you. Instead, set up a regular WordPress blog on your own hosting with a couple pages of content. Then build mini "wheels" around the content pages and you will have a decent shot as long as you are not competing against straight up authority sites.

Use the wordpress comment spammer to Spam the main domain itself...even just the URL with no anchor text. When you do the spamming, do it with a message like this...

"Wow! You provided some really good information here. What I really like is the fact that you presented the facts and left it up to your readers to make an educated decision themselves. If it isn't too much trouble could you post some more information on this subject"

Take that message and just blast away...before you know it you will have 300 - 400 links pointing at your site...

Then take a littlle time and get actual anchor links to your content pages which all link back to the main page...

Even though it might seem like a lot of work, you can probably do it all in about 2 hours.

spam the crap out of your linkwheel, and build nice organic links only for your money site. they are on trusted domains and even on the off chance that one of these trusted domains gets a slap from google you'll still have the rest of the hub off and running and pointing to your money site.

ok, dont know how but I managed to get on page #1 for my keyword on yahoo*com
well, not my money page but my hubpage. Shame as my site is ment for uk traffic.
I just about to try with UWCS..
I would assume if i changed my money page to my own site with a .co.uk i would get better results in UK search engines?..

i got the wordpress comment spammer, and used it...how long before i see reults?

You cannot expect to rank in Google instantly, even with link wheels. With that said, you can get in very fast.

If your money page is your own domain, it will take longer to rank, but your web 2.0 properties should rank fast.

But that's if you are promoting them. Just creating a link wheel won't get you anywhere. You need to bookmark each property, ping each property and its RSS, you need to submit your RSS feeds, and you need to build backlinks and traffic with articles, video, etc...

A lot of people think that building link wheels should get them better rankings in Google. Not the case.

You need to make sure you promote.

First off i would say dont gauge the competition by typing your keyword in " " and seeing how many other sites contain your keyword. You can look at your competition this way but its extremely in accurate.

Type in the keyword you are targeting - without quotes then run a detailed link analysis on the top 3 results - this is who you are competing with.

Ezine gives you only 1 link but if its a good article you'll more than likely start gaining more links through people ripping your article for content on their own sites.
