Thanks for everyone for your kind words of encouragement! I will be setting up a journey thread later today and will post here again when the first post is done. I believe my first site will be an amazon affiliate site. So, we will see how it goes.
I guess I will be using wordpress for my first site. As an amatuer web developer I am not really that big on Wordpress because it has always seemed slow to me. Also, I haven't studied a lot of PHP yet so that may have something to do with my hesitance in using it. Still, I don't want to re-invent the wheel and wordpress seems to be the fastest way to get started. I plan on learning PHP anyway in the next few months so who knows maybe I will eventually become a wordpress expert!
I have my own Ubuntu 14.04 VPS already that is running some HTML/CSS/JavaScript tools/websites that I created so I am thinking about just installing Wordpress on it and using it. I wonder though If I shouldn't just get a cheap Namecheap shared hosting plan for whatever domain I decide to go with and just use that at first. I do like running things on my own VPS because then I can do all of the log analysis I want and have full control...
Finally, I am going to need a good wordpress theme to go with. Let me know if anyone has any good suggestions. I am not against the idea of paying for one for one at all, if it is a good theme. I do need it to be fully responsive and preferably developed from a Mobile-first perspective. I think most traffic these days is mobile based. I think it is even a lot higher than most statistics out there.
