People get $3 articles and think it's top notch and then struggle to understand why they get 'spam' notices in GWT. The answer is written on the wall...

Because people think that experts should charge cheap prices because it's "easy for someone who knows it." It's the opposite. People with experience who can write as an authority charge more. And you're not getting anything but trash for $1/article. Guaranteed.

So, people hire some random whoever to rehash content they find anywhere and have no idea what they are talking about. Run it through copyscape and think it's great.

I've edited plenty of the junk from BHW marketplace, Fiverr, etc and it's sometimes so awful it's funny. Luckily, I win customers that way but it sucks that the person gets burned first. It makes all of us look bad.

I've been seeing more single moms and housewives claim to be "expert researchers" and throw out this junk. They think because they find a wikipedia page that it's just as good as a programmer with 15 years experience or a doctor who went to med school. These people are morons.

What do you think of the people who hire "single moms" and "housewives" to write about programming or health information for $1.00/article? Since you edited a lot of it, I assume you're one their clients. So you should have some interesting insight on the other side of the coin.

From experience, these people hired farmers (people who take money and then hire some $1/article junk writer) or the writer plagiarized their portfolio and bid and the client got something off-the-wall bad but just paid the writer anyway.

A lot of offshores writers completely plagiarize samples and their bids, so the client has no idea unless they make a phone call or email back and forth. Of course, you can spoof your location on Elance, so it looks like they are in the US or Canada. I combat this by only giving references where my name is on the article.

With the farmers, they will charge cheap (like $10/article) and then hire a junk writer, so the client has no idea that they are getting third-party junk until they get it.

I used to hire for a company that gets posted to this place a lot. lol One of the farmers I compete against on Elance gave us completely plagiarized material and he was on our blacklist. Farmers are also the guys who claim to have "teams" of writers. These "teams" are usually from third world countries where the farmer takes most of the cash and then hires the junk writers. They always tell you that the writers are from the US, though.

A lot of my customers who have big projects want to have a conversation with me, because just hearing a voice and personality helps you decide. The addition of extremely cheap writers (writers that have English as their second language) has really caused an overall decrease in the going rates of writers while also causing competition with genuine writers meaning they have to lower their rates. These writers which are being driven by competition to lower their rates also need to carry out more work to keep earning and therefore cut corners and avoid lengthy research just to "get the job done".

It is a viscous cycle where unless people start charging/paying what the value of content should be, the quality of content will forever remain poor.

So the next time you buy some content, take a second and think, how much effort would you put into a 500 word piece if you was given $3-5 for it?

From my (admittedly brief) experience, the main problem is that the copy is simply not written in an way that's able to connect with the prospect.

To put it simply, there's some subjects where you truly need someone who's into the matter in order to engage, mainly because a soccer mom will never be able to even talk in a way that will arouse interest of a, let's say... programmer.

And that lack of engagement (caused by the aforementioned reason) might cause an extreme loss of perceived value depending on the niche.

The infosec niche is a very good example of that effect in action, if you can't talk like one of those folks, you will simply not be able to transmit perceived value, and therefore, you'll arouse no interest in your prospects (just like me trying to get some ladies back in 2013)

If you are good at something, don't do it for free. Or in this case, don't sell yourself for a few bucks.

Man you and I speak the same language. I also think people test out the $1 article writers. What do you have to lose for a buck, right? I wish I could post some of the stuff I've edited. It's so bad you have to laugh. It's not just filler content either. It's just that the writer is obviously not in the US and tries to use colloquialisms that are so off the wall bad that it actually makes me laugh. Understanding culture and language nuances are two other reasons you should hire someone in the same country you're targeting. When you're trying to get people to enter a credit card, you immediately lose trust with awful content.

I noticed that offshores writers also love love love to write with tons of cliches. It's really LOL when they screw it up.

That's why I chose to write for free for awhile until someone noticed my worth. I am not here to promote but the US writers sway away from this because everyone wants quantity over quality. If I charge 30.00 dollars an article for 1,000 words. They actually want something completely different. I often get complaints even before I start working.

Hence the reason, I just bide my time. Work my own projects and say hope it works out for you. My wife tells me constantly especially when I want to go back and cave in. "They'll need you more than you'll need them."

People just use content to fill up their site. They don't care what's on it as long as it has relevant ads, etc. Eventually the cycle will slap some back to their senses to hire sensible writers.

A good gauge for good customers is the number of posts that they want. Like I told one of my customers that had filler content on their site -- one awesome fantastic blog post a month is better than 10 crappy filler content a week. Just look at all the people here complaining about "thin content" penalties. These penalties are from junk content just thrown up as filler.

Let's say they paid someone $10/article, which is cheap but I realize it ain't as cheap as the junk on BHW.. but $10 is the going cheap rate on most bidding sites. So, they paid $100 for cheap junk when they could have paid someone $100 for one fantastic article written by an expert with a unique view on things. They could have paid someone who knew the subject and the target audience.

For instance, I have a customer who is a UI designer. I'm a backend coder. We collaborate on the backend coder versus designer pain points when designing software. I don't need to rewrite a wikipedia article for that because I've been there and done that. I can connect with a backend coder and the struggles we have when working with designers. I imagine other professionals can do the same.

I agree with Archon, Its way lot better to pay some Solid Copywriter around $60-100 for an article and stop using all those fillers that insanely hurts your Website .
Keeping Fresh and Solid , crunchy content makes your incoming readers to stay and not bounce back in a snap. It helps you a lot to build readership where you can have easy traffic flowing your way after few months without even bothering to notify them.

All these user behavior affects your website metrics as well, Google has started developing an AI technique that skilfully measures how users are reacting and interacting with your website .

People want high quality but are only willing to spend a few bucks. They do not understand that the few bucks they spent is only hurting their site. It is always better to pay a bit more and know that it truly is high quality.

Good point. I think the real issue is whether someone is a pro or doing this for a hobby. As someone who does this full-time, I know I'm way more motivated than someone doing this as an aside.
