I would not even consider fiverr for something of that level personally; neither should anyone else.

I do it in house; I have a very good writer that does some of that writing for me and I have subscriptions to the syndication sites.

A few of the stronger off site authority processes I use to build up a site are:

1) Take advantage of Press Releases - get a few of them over a period of time and link to your root page. You can use different inner page targeted KWs if you want but use the root page as the target in your PR.
2) High Metrics Web 2.0s - If you can find them, and you should be able to, add a fair amount of content to them and link to inner pages using those.
3) Parasite Pages - You'll find that some do not give you a do follow link but that is not the point of a parasite page when you are using them for SEO. There are many that will give you authority links that are pretty strong for an authority backlink profile.
4) Private Blog Network Sites - We talk about PBNs here as a way to rank sites and they are a great tool for that. But many do not talk about using them as I do for an authority site for a long term benefit. You do not need a lot of these but get a handful of domains with good metrics, turn them into 25 - 35 page sites, and link only to your one authority site from them.

This is what my game plan consisted of, so thanks for the validation. Once I see a continuous source of income, I'll re-invest the money into a PBN for this website!

For now I'll just focus on the content itself, and drip out backlinks from web 2.0's and parasite pages.

Hey BTB, any updates on the site? I'm curious as to how the site has progressed since you've given it to your friend.

I've been working this process on one of my sites, and I'm seeing really positive results. My traffic has pretty much doubled, and the site now brings in more in 1 month than it used to in a year. I really don't do much for backlinking because any time I have is usually spent on content creation. I'd probably see better results if I put in more time to backlink, but I'm just going to continue to add content for now.

The site is just a baby yet, only at about 300 pages, but the results have been good. I've got a list of 75,000 + keywords I could target and that is just the tip of the iceberg. I've got a full time job, and a family with a little one running around, so time is limited. But I'm still trying to force myself to kick out at least 1 article a day. There really isn't any excuse not to do at least that when it only takes 15-20 minutes to kick out a decent article.

This isn't difficult stuff at all, the hard part is just staying consistent with your content creation even though you are not seeing anything happening right away. Things will eventually start snowballing.

Given what you say BeerBrewer and reading in between the lines with what BTB has said here and there I wonder whether sites gain some reasonable traction with the search engines when they hit somewhere around 300-400 articles. I mean quite apart from backlinking strategies- just the size of the site and the steady but sure addition of content.

What do you think?

You, Sir, are THE MAN... way to go.

I keep forgetting to talk with him about how he is doing but he must be doing well with it as when we talk he does not ask any questions and he is pretty good about that. I'll try and remember next time I speak with him.

I do know this - he adds content at least 4 times a week... sometimes more than one article a day and sometimes he goes a few days without posting anything.

It is hard to guess when your site will actually "kick in" with these kinds of sites as different content and niches all act differently. I've had sites start to do well with just 50 or 60 pages and others that took hundreds.

As an aside, if you are going to pursue this, start thinking about adding backlinks that give you authority. They do not necessarily have to be do follow either. I would be looking at some press releases, some PR web 2.0s, some PBN sites if you can do that (dedicate the entire PBN site to your site), some sites like Behance, etc (url is domain.com/KW as opposed to KW.domain.com) and be adding those in as you move in your off site SEO.

I'm now up to 125 posts, 150k words in total and getting around 100 uniques from G per day.

Built a few infographics and did some outreach to get some links on related sites which has gone pretty well.

Still on track for 200 posts within the first year. 164 days left and 75 posts to write.

My main concern is monetisation - getting a low RPM at the moment, so will need to figure out why that is and boost it up.

Quick question : if I will use expired domain instead of developing the new one, what are pros and cons of that ? I've heard that expired domain has a change of getting banned at the end? Should I be worried about that ? Thank you for your answer in advance!

I use expired domains often for my sites; you need to either use a trusted provider or do the proper historical due diligence as well as backlinking checking to make sure that the domain is not rife with junk.
