SEO Rankings Tanked This Week

All of my money sites' rankings tanked this week. I was on a steady increase (howbeit SLOW) for the last year or so and suddenly, out of the blue, I took a hit - in some instances dropped off the map - this past week.

All my sites are mobile friendly, so I don't think it was the new mobile thing with Google.

Is something else going on?

The only reason that comes to my mind when dropping out of the map is: either bad backlinks or manual review of the site.

I've been seeing a bunch of sites that are mobile friendly but not completely responsive taking hits over the past few weeks. Some got hit right on the 21st of April and some slowly got hit.

One of the sites that was hardest hit is completely responsive. That's why I can't figure it out. Such a sweeping hit to so many sites... few of switch are using the same type of SEO.

Can you think of anything linking them, like over optimized backlink anchors? Shitty links? There's probably something similar to all them that maybe you're not thinking about.

These sites are years old. I was pretty careful with them. And each had slightly different tactic applied to it. Some actually had NO SEO.

Footprints, you used the same I.P or same WHOIS name, or just something unique enough to link a few websites to the same person.

Ya this, did you use the same hosting ip, WHOIS or anything else? Link the sites to each other? It's just doesn't add up.

Site domain names are all anonymous registrations. It's possible there were some footprints, but again, I thought I was pretty careful... used a VPN and everything.

Although...I guess, if they found out all of the VPNs IPs, that would link me.

You just probably got hit by a manual review and the manual reviewer linked the other sites to you.

Did you use the same webmasters account on all sites?
Did you use a pbn? If yes was it linking to all the moneysites?

@ BTB- yup. my ipboard forums is one of them. it has a mobile version, but the website is not fully responsive yet. took big hits for google mobile

Contrary to popular belief, if your site is flagged for a manual review, the reviewers do not inspect the backlinks.

They're just there to check that the site the user lands on is relevant to their search intent. That's it (and a few other details, but the user experience is their primary concern - not how you ranked).

Because, if what you saying is true, than they wouldn't care how the sites ranking in "payday loans" got there, just look at the quality and if you see the quality of the payday loans niches, they are pretty awesome.

Google makes a lot of adjustments to their algorithm, you might have been caught in one of their filters that has recently been adjusted. Or they might just be experimenting with something, see what happens over the next week or two. One thing is for sure, if all of your websites have been hit at the same time there must be a commonality between them all.

Some years ago there was a leaked training/ops manual for the Google Manual Review team... it listed everything they do, and how to do it. And not a single part of it referred to backlink review.

I don't have a copy of the document - but I'm sure somebody here does, or can link to it.

As for payday loans, and possibly a couple of other super-bs niches - I should think they're not treated in the regular way. But for 99.99% of what anyone on this forum does, that doesn't apply.

I have never received bad advice from Tony D....

I would also like to add, if anyone remembers when the PBN crack down happened, most people were hit for 'thin content' on their site. As in, the content was not worth ranking that high. Correlation does not equal causation. Send a bunch of links, no matter how powerful, at a poor site, you will get hit. The Algo's are designed to hit back link manipulation.

What type of SEO? How many pages are indexed? The door way page algo was changed recently

Check your anchor cloud in Ahrefs. There might be something wrong
