Oh bouyy... Anyone excited for the royal birth?

Experts say the royal birth could inject tens of millions of pounds (euros, dollars) into the British economy, and a baby princess would give an added boost in the years to come.

"If it's a girl, it's like an investment that is going to pay off for the media and designers," Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, said after conducting a survey of retailers.

Any blackhatters going to try to get their slice of the cake? 390 million pounds is hellla of a lot of money.

I see numbers like this for lots of thing but never really understood how they came to that conclusion.

Are there really that many more people coming to UK just because of a new royal? My guess is that most of those people would be heading here anyway.

I have never met anyone in my entire life that would fly to another country for tourism over the birth of a baby of a royal family. I have also never meet anyone that would visit the UK over the Royal Family still existing (There is a line being peddled that they increase tourism.)

Not just visting Britain.

Watching British TV, reading British news reports, paying British media for content/airtime/advertising.
Then British merchandising and branding, etc.

Doesn't seem like that much when you think about the fact that a fight tonight in the US will make close to that.
2 men alone will make ~$300 million combined

No one cares about royalty anymore, in these days anyone can get rich and have a royal life or at least have a "higher social status" because of their money/social media fame.

And who cares about a king anymore? lol IM KING BITCH!!!

Im not even reading the news about it its just another birth royals are no different they just have more capital.

I've been running a "boy or girl" campaign for about 3 weeks.

If the UK really wanted to actually increase tourism instead of being scammed by the so called royal family. They would kick them off government money, legalize weed at least in London. Use the money that normally went to the scammers for both tourism ads all over the world as well as regulating marijuana shops so they can be safe.

I bet they would get more tourists in 1 month coming to the UK because of weed than they would get in 15 years of people that are obsessed with the royal family.

All the talk of equality, then we go spoil it by keeping a Royal family....off with their heads I say

The figure was cooked up to generate attention.

It wouldn't surprise if this is also done in the UK. In the states there is so much economic bullshit made up by local cities and companies in regards to tourism. For example the NFL promotes the Superbowl as bringing $500 million+ to a city's economy but the reality is that it is many times closer to $30 million.

Robert Baade, a sports economist with Lake Forest College in Illinois, puts Super Bowl benefits for host cities at between $30 million and $90 million, not the big numbers touted by the NFL and host city groups.

Similarly, a 1999 paper from professor Philip Porter found that the Super Bowl had virtually no effect on a city's economy. Research on other events New Orleans has hosted, including the men's Final Four, is similar. When Baade and Matheson studied Final Fours, they found that the events tend "not to translate into any measurable benefits to the host cities."
