So I'm starting a Fiverr clone.

I already have hosting on Hostgator, so I'll use that to host my site.

Now I need to buy a domain name. I already have 1 other website, and the domain name for that I got from Hostgator, and I pay $15 per year for it.

Should I register the domain name for the new site with Hostgator, GoDaddy, or from a domain registrar from some other country? I ask for 2 reasons, one is price, and the other is, you know, Fiverr site, questionable gigs, US laws, you know what I'm talking about.

And if the advice is to use some other country, how will that affect my SEO, if at all?

Thanks all.

i own fiverr.info you want .

No thanks. I'm not very familiar with laws and all, but that domain looks highly... infringing...

I already have a name in mind, one that's available, but I just need some information to see where I'm gonna register it at.

From what I know you cannot be responsible for material posted by users of your site. I saw that in some article about some "post your ex's nudes"-website owner that got arrested. So you should be fine registering it on a normal domain provider.

Let anything be the domain name. Do you think its going to a success with all the other clones out there? Will you be able to bring enough buyers? You will get sellers or atleast autopostings waiting for buyers, but think about how you are going to pull the buyers?

Well, this is not what I asked.

Whether I'll fail or not, time will tell...

Yes, that's what I'm thinking too.

But I asked to see what people are going to say. I mean, I don't have much experience with this, so someone with experience could prevent me from making a mistake.

Better safe than sorry; better ask than not; you know :)

Move forward only if you have a way to bring in the buyers. I have seen Fiverr clones from BHW members itself, running with little to no success.

This advice is coming from a guy who bought 2 vbulletin licenses to start 2 forums like 3-5 years back. You know what happened next :D

Well, I bought the theme, soon I'll get a domain name too, and give it my all...

May the internetz godz be with me on this journey :)

How about Scorpiongigs as domain.

haha thanks, but no. I already decided on a name, now it's just a matter of registering it.

My questions still stand, I'd like a few more responses on this.

Register with Hostgator and pay $15 per year, or can I get one somewhere cheaper? A .com domain, of course.

And, am I safe registering using a US-based registrar?

So I guess I shouldn't worry about where my domain provider is located, and the best thing for me to do money-wise is to get a GoDaddy $1 for the first year deal.

Anyone has anything to add?
